iOS: "A badge is a small red oval that displays the number of pending notification items (a badge appears over the upper-right corner of an app’s icon). You have no control over the size or color of the badge." https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/MobileHIG/NotificationCenter.html Android: Android, as usual, seems to not have included this topic in their guidelines, so it seems that it might be ok. There is some discussion of it on the net, such as this Stack Overflow post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25030710/gcm-push-notification-large-icon-size Hope this helps! Cheers! -- Smug

Smugs post above will work for android. I'm not sure if iOS allows you to customize it. Would have to dig deeper in apple docs to find out

That might be the 58x58 icon that you have to drag into Xcode (along with the other sizes). Perhaps make that particular icon show its innards in a larger way, but still within the 58x58 space. Zoom in on the innards for that particular icon size. -- Niraj
