Apple Maps or Google Maps?

Which one do you think is the best? Buzztouch uses the Apple Maps right? Is there a way to turn to the google maps?

Just use the maps plugin. If a device is running iOS6, it will use Apple Maps (which is better). But if a device uses iOS5, it will automatically use Google.

This is an interesting question... The satellite images for the area of my guide app are far clearer and much more up to date with Google Maps. However, through the map plugin, up to date iOS devices will only load the poorer Apple maps. No fault of the buzztouch plugin, which is excellent, its just an Apple thing. There may be a way to get google mapping direct from Google and incorporate it into a screen- but it won't be easy!

There was quite a discussion over Apple not using Google maps since iOS 6.0. In fact Google maps are probably the best maps ever, it is the most precise thing due to enormous community continually improving it. Apple maps had a lot of reported problems, including errors sized 1mi (1.6km). I would definitely stick with google maps if it is possible. Cheers, Frogman

I would always say Apple's has a better interface, but I'm trying to develop a plugin with the google maps api.

If someone can get this up and running as a plugin I would definitely be interested! Google maps for my location are far better...

It's not that hard to implement but I was hoping to keep driving directions 'within' the app. It doesn't look like it. I'm working with it on a plugin that I am creating, but for the moment it's not really suited for 'distribution'. I hadn't thought about making it public and the views aren't 'universal' so plug and play is not really engineered into it just yet. Just watch Davids video on 'how to make a plugin' and doodle with the samples in the SDK. When you're ready to try yours, don't use a 'mapview', just use a 'view' and set the class to GMSMapView, from there, just try the SDK sample methods and keep your fingers crossed. Also remember there is a specific 'iOS' API key needed now; it's in the API Control panel of your Google Developer account. I haven't found a good way to put it into my plugin; it *has* to go into your <appname>_appDelegate.m file, just inside the 'didFinishLaunchingWithOptions' method. Cheers! -- Smug

Smug- that sounds great, but sadly I don't have the talent or time to tackle it right now. I look forward to buying yours if and when you go public- or perhaps investing in your code if it never reaches the full buzztouch plugin market. Thanks for giving me hope... Chris
