This is especially important if you plan to be using PNG files. My last app update increased my app size from 18MB to 44MB. This was because I'd forgotten to compress the file sizes, so my simple app became a huge size. Anyway, I've found this handy little piece of software for macs. It compresses all types of images: jpg, png, gif... http://imageoptim.com I've found it handy, because it only reduces the file size to the point where your quality doesn't change.
