downloading xcode

Can I download xcode onto an ipad and work on my app on an ipad?

Sadly no. On a Mac only. You could remote into your Mac via the iPad and work on Xcode that way though. Good luck with your app building.

Yes, by all means providing it is recent enough model. Check you specs against Xcode minimums.

What are the requirements for developing with the iOS SDK and Xcode? To develop with the iOS SDK and Xcode, you must have an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or later, and you must be registered as an Apple Developer. https://developer.apple.com/
