For example, if new news was added to the "news" tab, the app would see a new menu item, add a badge to the icon on the users iPhone and when the user opened the app, another number badge would appear on the appropriate tab (for tabbed layout). The example was for a new news item added to a menu under a tab bar. Of there was a new menu item added, the tab bar would have a badge with the number 1 to signify new information was added.
