Any Hostgators expecting problems with PHP 5.4 update?

Did anyone else using hostgator for self-hosting get this email? And know if PHP 5.4 will cause any problems? Regarding your shared hosting account on gator3149.hostgator.com with the primary domain name We're writing to inform you of an important change in your server's default configuration that may affect your websites. The default version of PHP employed by our servers will be updated to PHP 5.4 on 5/15/2014.

Most worked ok, had a couple odd behaviors that showed up that I'm not sure could be attributed to that. Just to be sure I set my PHP back to 5.3 through my HostGator Cpanel yesterday. Tim

I've had issues with CHILD ITEMS on PHP 5.4 I can't add or edit any of the menus that use child items. I had to move an install over to my own box and another over to a AWS Instance so I could run PHP 5.3. This is the most difinitive answer I could get on the topic- https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=393206897ECE9456205A2E3&fid=06DB0BCB08E6666&sortColumn=FT.id&sortUpDown=DESC&currentPage=1 We had a thread that brough this up last week and I downloaded the latest SH package from BT and copied over all the new files (most of these php scripts are in the "includes" folder) and the problem still persists for me.....

The child items problem has a workaround, simply open each child's detail and save, then it will appear. This is a real pain if you have a lot of items though. Hopefully 5.3 fixed this, have not confirmed whether it has or not.

That would be great if there was a workaround - except I can't create new child items to add to a new menu or see the child items listed if I try to access an existing menu..... These are the errors I get: A problem occurred while adding this item (1). Notice: String offset cast occurred in ../BT-server/includes/class.Json.php on line 218 {"result":"success"} This is another thread which is where a bunch of us tried some other fixes for this with some minimal success. https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=DC9888C3009CC3F8213081F&fid=06DB0BCB08E6666&sortColumn=FT.id&sortUpDown=DESC&currentPage=3 That's actually one of the last times I saw David around. I keep hoping for an update to that thread or the SH package. I'm amazed more posts don't come up about this problem....

I received my email today from Hostgator telling me that they are to move me to PHP 5.4. There are some very long threads about all of this so it's hard to figure where we are, now. Do I need to carry out any action regarding this move to PHP 5.4? John
