Beta Test Request: Over Here Guam for Android

Hi folks! I'm about to release an update for my 'Over Here' app for Android, matching the same capabilities as my iOS version. If you have an Android device, and a few minutes, I'd appreciate it if you'd give it the once over: http://apps.marianasgps.com/download/?id=EA21DE9D3A2472CDB74B59575&platform=android It's BTv2 Android, so any API from 8 on up 'should' work. Offline Maps on Android! :) Honestly, I'm not sure how the offline maps will work in other locations. Would you mind letting me know if you can see the map at all? It'll be in the "message your location" screen. Also it's the Android version of my Smug Climate plugin, if you've never seen it in action. If you care to play with the iOS version, it's been in the stores for a few months, and could probably use an update too, lol! https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/over-here-guam!/id670829404?ls=1&mt=8 Just a suggestion: As you can see above, having an exclamation mark in your filename is not always going to work out well for you. just copy the whole line, or leave it be. I appreciate any and all comments. Cheers! -- Smug

I appreciate your help! worker: There are no custom URLs… only local HTML files (except for weather and msgloc). wonder why they're not being responsive… they work ok on my device, naturally… I need an older device to test with. Thanks again, guys! Cheers! -- Smug

Hey Smug, I installed the app on my phone (Alcatel Evolve One Touch with Android 4.1.2) everything is working properly except for the message location part. It says Unfortunately it has stopped. Hopefully this helps! Yesha

Yesha, thanks! I've noticed that too, on newer devices. It seems to be bombing out on my double conversions from string coordinates to actual coordinates… Odd, because it works on a LOT of devices… just not all of them. I did it in BTv2 to keep compatible with older devices… but looking at my Google specifics on my apps, about 20 people are using Android 2.3 or lower, so I may just redo everything in BTv3 and leave Froyo behind. Thanks for looking into it for me! Cheers! -- Smug

Hi @Smug, I installed it on BlueStacks <a href="http://www.bluestacks.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.bluestacks.com/</a> (I don't have a "real" Android device yet) and it looks good. I put some screenshots on my dropbox: <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m4v3pahetr51jl1/ESV3EINH1Z" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m4v3pahetr51jl1/ESV3EINH1Z</a> I can't test things like texting but general nav and content is solid. I tried it out on my HTC One (Android 4.1.1) and the map showed a blank area with the one pin (I'm in Canada). There was no way to zoom out. The sms and email options had no tel# or email address pre-filled. I didn't get it crashing, as others above have. To be honest the app was not very clear in explaining its benefits, in the About section. I'm not sure why someone would want this app outside Guam, so maybe it's better to ask locals to test it. That's all I had re feedback.

Pdog: No one would want that app outside of Guam. I just don't know that many locals with Android Smartphones. I appreciate your time! Cheers! -- Smug
