Type of Hosting for Self Hosted

What type of hosting account do I need to have for a Self Hosted Buzztouch installation? I currently used a Shared Hosting account on BlueHost for my websites. Can I use that or do I need to get a dedicated server?

No need for a dedicated server - shared hosting will do just fine. Just make sure you can upload php files via ftp. PSMDanny can help get you going for pretty cheap, too.

Simply put -- use HostGator.com for their prices and for their excellent support and for easy Push Notifications with self-hosted Buzztouch. Buy their cheapest Linux plan. You will be fine. If your app gets popular, then upgrade as needed.

I'm using my Blue Host account. I am moving away from Host Gator because they have a strict "processes" limit. Certain email programs, including the default on my Mac, frequently open processes. With Host Gator, as soon as you hit this limit, it literally shuts down your account for the rest of the hour. After having my website go down when I was trying to work on in it several times I figured out what was happening. Blue Host doesn't have such a limit so I feel safer. I have installed Buzztouch and a bunch of plugins with very little problems tonight (much better than my attempt to use Amazon hosting yesterday). I have even copied over an app and am working on it. All in all, I think it has been a success.

Try to get them to open the ports for Push Notifications. Let us know if they are willing to do it?

Niraj, couple questions. First, you mentioned upgrading "if your app gets popular". At what level am I going to have problems? My apps are seasonal, but at times I get thousands of downloads a day and probably 30,000 or so app uses a day on a semi-regular basis. This is across my portfolio. Am I ok for now or have I crossed into "popular" and need a better plan. Second, it sounds like there might be issues with push notifications if I'm using Blue Host. Is that right? Thanks for all your help! Dave
