If you mean the image that is shown 'on' the tab, they must be a particular kind of icon, just 'any' icon won't work. Here's the scoop from Apple: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/userexperience/conceptual/mobilehig/BarIcons.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40006556-CH21-SW1 there's a bit of summary only at idev: http://www.idev101.com/code/User_Interface/sizes.html If you want to view some ready to use icons there are a bunch here for free: http://www.iconbeast.com/free/ or if you want to create your own there is a tutorial here: https://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/pixelTabIcons.pdf or if you have photoshop you can use this method: http://greenerpastures.dk/blog/iphone-udvikling/how-to-make-tab-bar-icons Hope this helps! Also, if you are looking to have your icons a little more unrestrictive, like using full color PNG files instead of the grayscale ones by default, Chris1's Tabbar Utility is perfect for that. It offers all kinds features, like scrolling tab bars, center icon larger than the others, and a bunch of other stuff... but I simply use it to make my tab bar icons allowed to be full color. For me, it's a must have in any app I create.
