Setting up Intelli J 13

I have had a lot of success using Intelli J 13 to for building android apps. Its been a lot nicer to use than Eclipse (x100). http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/ I ended up getting the paid version, but we were doing some research and it looks like the free version will work as well. The following are some links I sent Susan Metoxen for setting up up Intelli J. I thought this was a good video for getting intilli j hooked up to JDK and ADK. No sound but thorough. No need to install phonegap. If you already have eclipse set up with the ADT and JDK there is no need to redownload them. You only want one copy of these on your computer. All your really looking to do is get intelli j hooked into ADT and JDK. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1tq6ECwl_s This is for installing google play services. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/17960315/importing-google-play-services-lib-into-intellij-idea-12-and-13 Opening a buzztouch project in intellij http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4m05kt3jfY

Nifty, Nick! Thanks! @LA, it looks like the same AVD that we use in Eclipse; I suspect the 'emulator' is the same, so it'll be the same response as current AVD devices… Nick, do you find the Environment any better? Is android coding any easier? And above all, how is the layout manager, and how easy/difficult/different is it to work with Android layouts in IntelliJ? Cheers! -- Smug

@LA The emulator is the same as Eclipse. So same old slow load times. @smug I find it a ton better. For the most part I have only been tweaking the xml portion of the layout. So I cant say of the GUI portion of the layout manager is any better. Though I have read that it is.

This is a huge opportunity for us. I am finishing up a big project, and then I plan to make the switch.

Any advantage to this? Android Studio is faster than Eclipse as well or no? I have no idea but Eclipse doesn't run so slow to me.

@mysps The main advantage is its less frustrating to work with. Less hang ups, crashes, better reporting of errors. You don't feel like your fighting against your with your development tools. Intelli J 13 community and Android Studio are very very close as they share most of the same code base. I am not sure what the differences are but they are small. @LA You can leave eclipse installed.

Has anyone tried Android Studio? Last I heard it was too buggy. But if we change over to IntelliJ, maybe it will be an easier transition to Android Studio when the time is right.
