I entered the user credentials I created in phpmyadmin, and I cannot get them to work. I've double checked them and repeated the steps several times, and it is such a straightforward step to get stuck on, I am thinking I may have made a more complex mistake somewhere along the line. Most of us aren't hosting there, so not sure how many can be of assistance (other than RD). With respect to the credentials, make sure you use fairly simple characters for the username, and nothing 'too' fancy in your passwords. Sometimes the translation can get a little weird. "trouble connecting to the database server" can mean almost anything. If you're certain that your credentials are correct, you might also want to ensure you're accessing the right server (or any server at all). When I build servers locally, I use localhost. At my hosted server online, I have to use an IP Address. Hostgator uses 'localhost'… I haven't a clue what amazon uses. But you ought to check and make sure it's correct.
