The Brits take a good idea from the U.S. and make it great!

http://bit.ly/OSWUNi Hats off to the Brits for taking the U.S. initiative #hourofcode from code.org and taking it one step further. From September every student will be learning code in the classroom. Good call! Here’s hoping the idea goes global!

It's pretty awesome actually. But everyone in our school has undergone basic coding already in IT lessons.

Oops.. was on private browsing.. Teaching this material to kids is a lot fun and is being very well received by teachers and parents alike but unfortunately we are a long way from making coding obligatory in Italian schools. Lucky you Thomas learning it in the UK!

The press in the UK has been quite hot about this issue. The education secretary made coding required for high schools in 2010. Currently, you have to get at least 6 weeks at high school. I was amongst the first set of students to get this compulsory education. But a year ago, he made IT not compulsory during GCSE. The news currently is to make coding another subject before GCSE and maybe to introduce it into primary schools. This means that up to GCSE exams, students will have both 'Computing' lessons, where they will do coding, and 'IT' lessons where they learn how to use excel and photoshop and stuff. I come at a disadvantage here, because students just three years younger than me will have an educational advantage into coding. However what I am currently doing at school is very useful towards my app skills. School taught me how to use photoshop. Look where just photoshop skills have got me only 2 years after learning it. I use the software everyday to make graphics for my apps!

@Dervalo... I'm lucky enough to be part of a good community of app developers, let alone school.
