How to on setting up self-hosted BT CP 3.0.0 on Amazon EC2

Folks, As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I made a "how to" guide to setting up a self-hosted Buzztouch Control Panel (3.0.0) on an Amazon EC2 instance. I forgot to post again when it became available on the Buzztouch web site. It's up now. You can get it on the "How to" page or directly from this URL: http://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/RDs_Updated_EC2_Self-hosting_Guide.pdf If anyone has any questions or suggestions, or finds mistakes in the guide, please let me know. --ResearchDepartment

Wow. Very nice and thourough, that had to take some serious time. Thanks! Everyone should build a LAMP stock on the EC2 cloud, it's a great practice to really understand cloud computing. That FREE Tier is only for 1 year IIRC. I'm still trying to figure out what the monthly cost would be after 1 year (???) I'm guessing between $40-70 as they base it on usage. I moved an installation over there a few weeks ago and it's running great. I used a Red Hat image instead and thru windows using PUTTY for the SSH. The only suggestion I would have is to add WEBMIN to your instance. WEBMIN give you full GUI control of the box. I'm a command line junkie at heart but still find WEBMIN very useful. Thanks again, great stuff and very, very well done :)

Hi RD, Working my way through the tutorial RD...thank you for putting it together. It's a breeze to follow through. I'm very close to the end but I got stuck...can't seem to figure it. I am on "setting up buzztouch on the EC2 instance" step 6, where I make the changes to the config.php file. All seems very straightforward but when I click the test link, the page comes up completely blank. No login page, or error page. The obvious things to look at were my physical path and root url, but they both seem to be fine. Seems as though I've hit a dead end, at least mentally. If you have any ideas please let me know! Thanks!

mtcoleman9, I apologize for the delay. I just saw this a few minutes ago. In step 6 in the tutorial, I reproduce the text from the page in the BT Control Panel setup, but then give my own suggestion of how to do the things listed on that page (steps 6.1 through 6.3, with a whole bunch of sub-items identified by lower-case letters). My instructions are more detailed than the ones that appear on the setup page. Are you following my more detailed instructions? If so, I suspect I may have left out some important step. If not, try following my instructions, which were my attempt to make this part less difficult. Also, it may not matter, but what operating system and browser are you using?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly RD. I did follow your instructions pretty much exactly, using filezilla. I'm using chrome on OSX 10.9.2.

Hmmm... I don't see any better way to take care of this than to save an image of my current setup and go set up another instance with a Buzztouch Control Panel. It won't take me long, because I've done it a few times, but I can't start now. I'll have to do it later. I apologize for that delay.

No worries. Thanks for looking into it. I may try another one from scratch today if I get time too. I'll let you know if I make it past my current point.
