Aurasma, what's new?

Hi guys, Finally, the day has come. I now have a serious client interested in contracting me to make an app with Aurasma. :) Much has been posted about Aurasma and their website isn't super clear. What can be done with @Kittsy's plugin? I registered to Aurasma about 6 months ago but didn't do anything with it so I don't have the Kernel. Does it mean that I have to pay 5000 GBP per kernel? Thanks for the guidance. Farcat

Unfortunately far cat the answer now is yes. If when you initially signed up, created 10 generic kernel/app names you would be laughing, some people have had luck with bargaining with them for a kernel. Aurasma have been bought over several times since that plugin was created and they have turned into corporate douches

Hi @Farcat & @Kittsy! I jumped on Aurasma when Kittsy first created his plugin (thanks Kittsy!) and the Aurasma service was free for us small guys. It was an awesome integration when I was just starting out with Buzztouch, and it really was like magic! I made a test app and I integrated into something used internally for fun at my 'day job' and it worked very well (even on an old iPhone 3GS!). I was lucky enough to be paying attention when Aurasma was changing their business model. On Kittsy's recommendation - I think... it may have just been a comment in a forum post somewhere - I created 27 generic kernel/app names for "future" development use on their 1.x SDK. Maybe I'll use them someday... These are still usable and able to be downloaded - for now. I can't create any new ones as they've moved on to 2.x SDK and you have to have an upgraded account to create 2.x SDK kernels. "Corporate douches" is right. There is no way small independent developers like me would ever be able to buy in to their plans, and I don't even have any idea how a big dev shop could justify it either, unless they're getting big bucks for huge national/worldwide campaigns. They had the potential to embrace this "small" market here (like the other GREAT Buzztouch partners), but they took a different path and blew it. I also bet you'll never see their technology in an app you download for general use.

Thanks, I thought it might be the case. I'll see if my client would like to invest that kind of money... Regarding these generic kernel/app names that you guys downloaded under Aurasma 1.x SDK: can these be sold and used by other developers? It would be wicked if it was the case (one would need to be able to change the app name though). Farcat

From what I can tell you can't just "sell" the kernel setup as it is related to all the other assets associated with the action of the service: There is an image that is hosted on Aurasma that used trigger events and the event itself can be a video playback that is also hosted on Aurasma. All this is set up and uploaded into your admin console. I think you can look at it this way: It's as if you were trying to "sell" the downloadable from a Buzztouch hosted app - all the stuff to make it work is still in the settings in your Buzztouch console. Thanks William, it makes sense. I wrote to Aurasma to get a quote for the SDK, let's hope they reviewed down their pricing strategy... My last post shows as "Annonymous", how strange?! Farcat

Got an email back from Aurasma to say that "We do not have a set pricing list, as total cost depends on varying factors." They asked me to fill up a form, which I did - to be continued. Farcat
