HTTPS Site Not Loading

Hello all, I have a website url link to a HTTPS site. The site is very slow to load and most of the time it does not load at all. I have built an Android app. Is there any insight someone could give? Thank you

Check it with a normal browser from the Android Device. All things being equal, it should load/fail similar to your BT screen. You can't fix an external problem from the app. But if it 'does' load faster and more reliable, then something else might be hampering your progress. Cheers! -- Smug

Yes, it loaded as anticipated in the browser...

Then maybe try a different HTML plugin. If you're using HTMLDoc, try Custom URL, see if that makes any difference... Cheers! -- Smug

Hi all, I appreciate the suggestion. I tried various ways and still having trouble. When I use the native app, it loads as anticipated but on any of the plugins, it stalls out to a black screen.

Hmm... I'm coming up with nothing. "In Theory" the webview (component of the plugin) should have pretty much the same behavior as any other browser; essentially it's the same code 'at the bottom'. Why it would behave differently is a bit of a puzzle... The only thing I can come up with is that it's https. Which shouldn't matter. But I do have several 'normal' html pages running through various plugins both Android and iOS, and don't have these issues. But none of them are SSL encrypted, which may be what is playing a part in your delay. Any chance you can use a non secure page, at least for testing? Of course, that will still leave SSL to be dealt with, but until you come up with a good reason/solution, you may as well continue with the other parts of your app... Cheers! -- Smug

@RTC360 - I might be seeing a trend. I've noticed the folks who entered BuzzTouch in 2011 do not have Member badges. Perhaps there is a glitch in the Forum code, -- Niraj

I'm working on my first Android application this week but have been writing code for decades so I'm a novice but not really :) Anyway, I had the same https:// URl problem and found several other posts and read the links mentioned in the forum at: https://groups.google.com/forum/m/?fromgroups#!topic/android-platform/dx60KGvzjqk which ultimately pointed me to SSL errors due to my service provider self signed certificates. In a nutshell, BT_screen_customURL.java does not have a handler for SSL errors which can occur for many reason including cheap hosting services, self signed certificates and even within companies which have their own certificate authority infrastructure, etc. Currently, a small hack is required to add imports and a handler to BT_screen_customURL.java to display the error or in my case simply allow to proceed. import android.webkit.SslErrorHandler; import android.net.http.SslError; ... ... @Override public void onReceivedSslError (WebView view, SslErrorHandler handler, SslError error) { // showAlert(getString(R.string.errorTitle), error.toString()); // BT_debugger.showIt(activityName = ":onReceivedError ERROR loading ssl: " + error.toString()); handler.proceed() ; } Uncomment the showAlert if you wish to display the message, same for running within the debugger or both. Hope this helps someone and once I'm done with my first application I'll come back and post finial code suggestion as opposed to just proceeding blindly.

Wow -- this is fantastic sleuthing! Let us know when you solve it on the iOS side (if it happens there also). Thank you! -- Niraj
