Solved - Self hosted plugin stopped working

I no longer seem to be able to modify screens of type send email or share via email in my self hosted 2.1.8 installation. It is a control panel thing, but every time I try to save, I get an error. The app runs, I just can't configure the email options from the control panel. Problem is, I don't know how to fix it. I can't remove the plugin to reinstall, as I have several apps with this plugin (and the problem is now in all of them!).

Hi @AlanMac, Could it be that you updated your plugins on your CP but didn't upgrade to 2.1.9? Cheers, Farid

Hi Farid, well I have tried to refresh the plugins, they say they are all up to date, but also I am not sure the CP allow me to break itself in this way if that is what you are thinking. And it's only the email plugins.

Hi Alan, What happens if you create a new testapp and add those screens. Does it work different from all your current apps? Best Regards, Danny

Hi Danny I'm on 2.1.8 and if I create a test app, or try to edit an existing one, the problem is the same. The error I se is "A problem occurred while saving the entries (2)"

Hi Alan, About a moth ago all (most) of the plugins got an update to work with bt 2.1.9 If you are still using bt2.1.8 and updated you plugin to the latest version, problems can arise. You can check the version of your email plugin. If it's 1.5 then you have the latest version (which probably doesn't work with bt2.1.8) So I think it's best that you upgrade your core files to 2.1.9. Hope this helps. Best Regards, Danny

Danny, Farid, thanks both, good advice, it looks like you are on the right track, although I'm surprised if there isn't some kind of compatibility check between plugins and CP when refreshing. I have had this problem for a good few weeks, looks like it is time to upgrade.

Hi Alan, Yeah good moment to upgrade. There isn't a compatibility check at all. The only check is the version number on your server and on the buzztouch server. If the version on the buzztouch server is higher than on your server it will show that there is an update available. You're assumed to work with the latest version of the control panel software. If not, than also don't upgrade the plugins --> but this could give errors in case of updates in the core software like xcode, buzztouch core etc Best Regards, Danny

Hi Alan, Sounds like you need to upgrade to 2.1.9 as your plugins are up to date. Version 3.0 is just around the corner though, it is beta tested at the moment. So if it is not super urgent you can save yourself extra work and upgrade to the newest version when it comes out. Cheers, Farcat

Danny, appreciate the insight. If there isn't a plugin compatibility check, perhaps there should be? Farid, that is exactly the philosophy I have been adopting up to now, I have been waiting for 3.0 since it was announced about 5 weeks ago. I strongly suspect this release is proving more challenging to complete than originally expected and we don't know how far away this release is. I'm happy to be patient, if I thought it was coming out in the next few days I'd wait, but if I thought it would be another 5 weeks, I'd go to 2.1.9 today!

I hear you my friend. :) We might all very well have to wait another five weeks. At least we know that the guys work as quick as they can to deliver the best product possible. Mind you, upgrading the control panel is not that much work once you've done it a couple of times. Let us know how you get on!

Just upgraded to 2.1.9. Two things to note. 1) After installing, I upgraded each plugin one by one. The send email plugin failed to upgrade with error (3). 2) I downloaded and tried to compile my latest app in development, as the code is vanilla. Now I am getting lots of errors in xcode. I believe the project preparation phase is the problem. My previous download of that project was only a couple of days ago, in xcode 5 it is fine. I suspect the upgrade, I always have some kind of issues when upgrading BT, in the past it was always something to do with the way my hosting provider secures curl and David B has had to fix it. http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=9AC475EDDAE87A8DB2659F7&command=isSearching&currentPage=1&topicTitle=curl&createdBy=&repliedBy=&minViews=-1&maxViews=-1&minReplies=-1&maxReplies=-1&forumCategory= Still, at least Arsenal had a good result yesterday against Liverpooool

Update - the email plugins now can be configured, which I checked on an existing project, so upgrading did sort that part out.

Got to the bottom of it. The upgrade did work, but something that worked before in 2.1.8 stopped working in 2.1.9. On the Control Panel, the app that wouldn't compile had a project name in lower case and the app name was in upper case (in core values). I changed both to lower case in the control panel and now it is all OK. And the upgrade fixed the problem I was having with the email plugin.
