Anthony from Los Angeles, CA USA

I must say that the closest I came to the BuzzTouch was to think I could find some template projects that I could modify for my use. So I took on the steep learning curve of Java via Eclipse. It is starting to make sense but the B.T. concept got me going right away. I do have a question for the community...how is intellectual property protected for the members as they are hosted on B.T.'s server? Is there a N.D. agreement that I will see when I become a full member? Also, some of the applications I intend to develop are more complex than the plugins I've seen so far....such as storing data on the device or capturing incoming phone calls and examining the number...etc. Are functions like this beyond what can be done on B.T.? I am looking forward to exchanging ideas and learning as much as I can...Good Day to Everyone. Anthony Jaxon

Hi Anthony, Welcome to Buzztouch! Sorry you had to go through the pain of learning Java, but that'll put you in a great position to use and expand the Buzztouch framework. I bet you come up with some crazy good stuff! You entire app is driven by the BT_Config.txt file, and that's not visible to anybody on the Buzztouch website. You own all the code for your app, and can modify it to your hearts content. Once you download a project file, you can open up a .java file and see the rights declaration in the header. There is no NDA at all. Anything you can accomplish writing straight Java you can do with Buzztouch. This site provides a framework on which you can extend your app in any way you want..or just use the default plugins, modified a bit for your particular need. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! Mark

Welcome! All I can really do is say welcome, and echo GoNorthWest's statements. You'll soon discover you've found the epitome of App Development methodology. :) Cheers! -- Smug

Thanks for the warm reception and I am very eager to get deep into the tools and networking in this community. I like the video hands on tutorials but.....I seem to be missing something with the menus. I there a video or other tutorial on using the menus with sub menus? Also, are there any plugins that will get me started with files that have been encrypted with AES level encryption? Lastly, are they any plugins that will allow me to read doc, pdf and/or xls files natively? The pdf plugin seems to require your device to have a reader app already loaded on your device. Really lastly....I am using a Samsung Glaxy 7" tablet for development....the google map plugin does not seem to work. I keep getting a message the enable location is not on....it is on... Thanks again for the warm welcome. Anthony

I use my Galaxy Tab 2 7" for Android development. You're going to find that there are very noticeable differences between iOS and Android; Having to use an external app to view PDF's is one of them. iOS will read almost anything. Android does not. I'm not sure what to say about encrypted files; I'm sure they can be decrypted, but I don't think any of the current plugins have that functionality; they will need to be modified to accommodate that. I'm not sure about any 'menu' tutorials. They work fairly simply; a menu choice is typically linked to another BT Screen. That new screen can be another menu, or some kind of display. A lot of apps use a little of both. Getting through the BTU courses should shed a little light on that subject, although I don't recall it being the 'focus' of the tutorials. With respect to Google Maps, there are a couple of tutorials in the 'How To' section that should be able to help you out. You'll need to register with Google and get an API key for your map usage. and the forum is for all these questions and more! Let us know how it goes! Cheers! -- Smug

I've seen a couple of references to an android demo. Is this a web app to see what my application looks like and if so, how is it started....I don't see any links. Thanks Anthony

A lot of the work I will be doing with app is from my home office...123 miles from the office. Is there any way I can show the manager what the app looks like without using the store....since we are just testing....? Thanks Anthony

Great site...uploading pre-release builds...I already set up an account. Just a couple of questions. Where are the icon resources Jarrod Robinson talked about in his getting started with 2.0 youtube video. Also, I noticed that builds I download to my device use a lot of memory...more that most of the other apps. Are there other steps I can take to optimize how memory is allocated? Thanks. (is this the wrong part of the forum for this question...? If so I will move it. Thanks Anthony
