App Reviews - Collaboration?

Hey everyone! I just had an idea and I wanted to find out how many people would be interested in it. In essence, I was thinking that we could all decide on a day to share and download the applications of others and leave positive reviews for them. These are the steps I thought of: -Firstly, this would apply for iOS apps. It could be done for Android as well, but for simplicity's sake, I think we should stick to one for now. -Secondly, apps that are already free wouldn't need to do anything whereas paid apps would need to go free on this day. -Thirdly, whoever is on the list would have to rate & review (positively preferably!) each and every app on the list. That being said, if we end up with a list of 100, then we might decide on a number! -Lastly, we should agree on the terms of the review. In my opinion, there should be a minimum of 3 sentences required per review. I would be more than willing to create a Google Doc Form that we could complete that would contain 4 fields to complete - your name, your Buzztouch username, your Apple Store nickname (what shows in reviews), and finally, the name of your app. Once this list would be comprised, we could all then select a date. Does this sound appealing to anyone or am I making an ass out of myself? ;) Thanks for any feedback! -Nicholas EDIT Of course, the onus would be on us to be honest and make sure that we're not only receiving reviews, but submitting them as well.

One more "to be honest" part is the promise to be honest on our reviews. :-) I have heard of Game publishers doing a similar thing. They also join forces to cross-sell each other's apps within the guild. -- Niraj

Hi Nicholas, this sounds like a great idea, if executed correctly. I'd have a small suggestion of stretching the "activity" over a few days / weeks in order that the reviews aren't ignored / classed as spam (which they will be if they all take place in the same time period). I'd be happy to help you organise this if you'd like? Even going so far as to setting up some automated email reminders etc. Do let me know.

Hey Jimmy, I like the suggestion. You sound like you have a better grasp of the idea than I do! ;) I threw the idea out there, but I wasn't too sure how to proceed. We could also do Android, really, it all depends. If you want, you could take charge of this idea, Jimmy, and let me know what you'd like me to do on my end. It would be cool if we could see who would want in and if we could create some kind of "schedule". -Nicholas

Hey Nicholas, I don't know about taking charge! I think it just needs to "regulated" in some way to get the right results. I.e. spreading the reviews out, making sure they're honest and making sure that people are also reviewing as well as submitting for review. If you get my meaning. The first thought I had was for a private area, requiring a log in, that generates a random link to an app from a database. You could then ensure that reviews were spread out over time. you could also check page views per user (clicks, too) to make sure that people were reviewing as well as uploading. However, the work involved would be significant. Furthermore, it would direct traffic from the openness of this forum, which would be a bad thing. There's a conflict of interest between developers who want reviews but who don't want to openly bandy their (or their clients!) apps around. I'll have a think!
