It's happened.

It's happened. The world has opened up beneath my feet and spit out fire. Pigs are flying. The very sky itself has fallen and I'm able to do algebra without error. A client has asked me for a windows phone app. What to do? David https://buzztouchmods.com/market

Until Buzztouch provides support for Windows, maybe use PhoneGap?

The thought of using anything but buzztouch sickens me, LOL! I could have sworn back, way way back in the day, there was a guide to port a buzztouch android app into a windows phone app (or was it blackberry?). David https://buzztouchmods.com/market

There was a guide for porting to Blackberry, and even for the Kindle. Nothing for porting to Windows that I'm aware of. And I agree...using anything but Buzztouch seems like heresy! Mark

That was Blackberry, as I believe BB10 is based on Android. Windows, though, is not. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a good way to translate the app to the Windows platform. You'll probably need to learn a new programming language and recreate the app. (Or tell the client that it's just not possible).

First question, how do you get clients in the first place? Non seem to be interested in me. Second question, why even bother developing for Windows? For me, getting my iOS apps to Android is hard enough!

Hi Thomas, 1. Market market market. Get contacts and if you get a client, make him really happy, then afterwards ask him for a referral. Find meetups and conferences to go to that relate to your work. 2. If a client wants it, I make it, that's why I am flabbergasted, I've never been asked to make a windows phone app, so I have to do it now. Otherwise, you're right, I would never personally look into doing windows phone, that would be a huge waste of my time! @Chris.. thought so! Looks like a whole new adventure is ahead of me. Sigh. @Mark, heresy indeed! I might just do a "mobile website" and offer that as a middle ground. Let's see how that goes. Thanks all! David https://buzztouchmods.com/market

Thanks for the tips. I think making a mobile website is a good half ground. But ask them before doing so, obviously. As you say, moving away from Buzztouch is a crime in its own right. After all, you do run a website that helps Buzztouch.

You can bang this out in 15 minutes. Windows Phone App Studio. I saw a demo of it at @1871 last week. I made a quick one myself just to look at the process. It's even easier than a BT app, but don't tell David that. They had some interesting templates with some decent functionality. They do give you the full source code too. <a href="http://apps.windowsstore.com/default.htm" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://apps.windowsstore.com/default.htm</a> I bailed before they covered the part of submitting to the Windows Phone store - but it costs $19 to join their dev program I believe. (and that thread title made me think you might be expecting LOL)

I would seriously consider dropping any client that has exercised such poor judgement. Windows Phone, ha! A blue screen of death that fits in the palm of your hand! Awesome. Absolutely not telling you how to do business but, "no thank you" would be my answer. Tim

I doubt its hard to make a windows phone app. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17205844/is-it-possible-to-develop-windows-phone-8-app-using-just-html5-css3-and-javasc *** Yes, Visual Studio 2012 provides a template to build HTML5 apps. This template is available with WP8 SDK. Alternatively you can use Phonegap, Titanium, Sencha. https://github.com/matthiasxc/WP8-HTML-Tutorials share|improve this answer *** About a year ago I applied for Microsoft BizSpark and got in. They give you a $7k/yr software package for free, for up to 3 years. Its not hard to get in. 1. Register a business with your local government. Needs to be less than 3 years old. For me it was a $50 LLC. 2. Put up a decent looking website. 3. Apply. You get most of the MSDN package (tons of software), Windows Phone Developer account ($19), Windows Store Developer Account ($99), some training videos, all for Free. http://www.microsoft.com/bizspark/

But they are really trailing in marketshare: http://www.zdnet.com/apple-ios-gains-on-google-android-in-mobile-os-race-7000021611/ I guess it's a shame because they ARE trying a different approach and their app development through to app presentation seems well-architected. It seems to be iOS in the US & Japan, Android in Europe, and probably a fragmented-Android elsewhere http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/oct/01/microsoft-nokia-smartphone-windows-phone

hahahaha -- I love Pancho's solution! Tim of ATRAIN fame has the best solution. Making a mobile web site is the 3rd best option. I would make the Client a WordPress app, which automatically might mobilize itself. As such, it is a full web site and a mobile web site ... all-in-one! And ... next time, don't tease us with such a headline unless it is life-impacting, such as the ring finger or the tummy-expander! :-) -- Niraj

He he, this thread crack me up! Well done David in landing another client. I had one client asking me the same thing and my approach was: "Tell me why you want a window app and I'll explain you why you don't need it." I guess it boils down to how well you know this client and whether he really wants a window app or is it poor judgment/advise? It's like clients wanting an app when what they REALLY want is a mobile version of their website. He might have a good reason for a windows-only app but I would love to hear it ;) If you he is misguided and you advise him as to what he needs you'll get brownie points too. I know it doesn't actually answer your question but maybe it helps. Farcat
