Android 3.0: tabs not appearing on tablet

It's black where they should be. They're actually there, because I can tap them and I get the blue underline, and the screen loads the data, but where the tabs should be, it's just black. When I tap on a "tab", it briefly flashes and I can see the text, but then goes back to black. On a phone the tabs are fine. I'm trying to run in an emulator to see the LogCat output, but I'm approaching the 90th minute of my tablet emulator starting up, so I'm not sure how long it will take. When i got my app from www.freeappstools.com recommended by a friend,the tabs disappeared. Reset and uninstall were no use. i have no idea. Maybe it needs repairing.
