Shout out for 911 - Getting Android SDK to recognize Java JDK

When I realized there are 3rd party site apps necessary to be installed prior to launching BT apps for Android I sought out and downloaded Java-ee_sdk-6u4-jdk.exe zip file and adt-bundle-windows-x86-x86_64-20130911.zip (containing Android SDK and Eclipse) The installer for Java jdk however now creates a path c:/programs(86)/glassfish3/jdk7 I unzipped and installed Android SDK into a development file c:/user/mydocuments/buzztouch but when I attempt to run it it won't recognize the jdk installation. I've tried moving the Android SDK file contents into glassfish3 and jdk7 files and running it from there, with no better success. Apparently this is a pathway issue: <a href="http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4394584/android-sdk-install-problem" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4394584/android-sdk-install-problem</a> But the solutions I've seen - pressing the Android SDK installer back button, doesn't work, and none of the solutions address Java's creation of a "glassfish3" file as part of the installed pathway. (I have no idea what glassfish3 is). Any one have a solution to the box I'm stuck in? Postscript: okay, I looked up glassfish: <a href="https://glassfish.java.net/public/faq/GF_FAQ_2.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://glassfish.java.net/public/faq/GF_FAQ_2.html</a> More PS: this may be a solution, but I don't know how to get to "Java_Home" Windows 7 64 bit - same behaviour as windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 32 bit: Just set JAVA_HOME = C:Program FilesJavajdk1.6.0_14 or whatever your actual path, start SDK, and after you'll get error - hit BACK and than NEXT again and you're able to install the Andriod SDK PPS: from the find_java.bat: This script is called by the other batch files to find a suitable Java.exe to use. The script changes the "java_exe" env variable. The variable is left unset if Java.exe was not found. PPPS: Okay, I now found a "find_java.exe" in the Android SDK files. Opening it with Note ++ it reads (gibberish to me, for the most part) I just tried to cut and paste it but no go. If anyone wants to look at it I'll email it. Update: I discovered this thread here, and will try uninstalling Java JDK7 and installing JDK6 https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=E843CFFA41563CEE382D9C0&command=isSearching&currentPage=1&topicTitle=jdk&createdBy=&repliedBy=&minViews=-1&maxViews=-1&minReplies=-1&maxReplies=-1&forumCategory=

Most of what you're saying; I don't understand. Perhaps it's because I'm running a macintosh. But, similar to Xcode for iOS, there is the 'Android Development Environment' for Android. Checkout GoNorthWest's tutorials for most Windows OS and Installing the ADT bundle. http://www.youtube.com/gonorthwest One 20 minute tutorial will save you hours of anguish. Cheers! -- Smug

Howdy, Wow! I had to Google what glassfish was, and it appears to be some Java server implementation. My suggestion would be to uninstall it, and then head over to this link and grab the latest copy of the Java JDK from Oracle. Grab the 32-bit version...no need for the 64-bit version, even if your hardware supports it. http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.html Then head over to this link and download the 32-bit version of the Eclipse ADT Bundle. http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html Unzip, put in a location you'll remember (I use c:\Android Development), and then double-click the "SDK Manager.exe" file to start downloading the required SDKs. As Smug mentions, I have some videos on my YouTube channel that shows how this all works! Let us know if you hit any other problems! Mark

You don't need Glassfish at all. Do as GoNorthWest suggested and you should be on your way, provided you remember where you put what and amending the PATH variable in Windows.

Followed the video until I ran into this glitch <a href="http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14004851/javaw-exe-cannot-find-path" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14004851/javaw-exe-cannot-find-path</a> This appears to be a solution: Right click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Enviroment variables > New ( Variable name: PATH Variable value : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_06\bin (Where you installed Java)) > Click OK! Done and also appears to answer my query regarding the whereabouts of JAVA_HOME: <a href="http://i.stack.imgur.com/pKMgK.jpg" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://i.stack.imgur.com/pKMgK.jpg</a> This is kind of like "Where's Waldo" - and would be a lot more fun if it wasn't 3 am. MR - peace out.

Update: My fail/my bad: instead of running the Java SDK I was extracting (7z) it. If you download and run the app - instead of extracting - it will install in a path Eclipse recognizes. I'm locked and loaded now.
