Challenge: Take-away App

Hi all, I am trying to work out how to make an App for my local Pizza-baker. The basic idea is that the user should be able to order take-away from the app and the pizza-baker will then confirm the order to the user via email or text/sms- message. Now, i can use the "Send-Email" module to let the user order ONE dish, but assuming that the user could order several dishes on the same order, i get lost for solutions. is this possible at all with the current plug-ins? I would be greatfull if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks! Kind regards, Kristian Nielsen, Copenhagen

Kristian_N, I know someone asked this type of question here before on the forums but might of been a different plate. I would ask yourself this: You wanting to store customers info for later? How much info you wanting to obtain? Most of this can be done easily through html and use the html or html/special url plugin but your gong to run into secure issues. LA

Hi Kristian, As LA suggests, this could easily be done using a form created in HTML and linked to the HTML Screen plugin. You could get some free hosting like HostGator that allows PHP scripting, create an HTML form that the user could use to order their pizzas, and then have the PHP script process the order, along with email and phone number, and have it sent to the pizza shop. That's actually super easy to accomplish. If you need some direction on how to make that happen, just let us know! Mark

Following as this is something I was looking into a while back. The trouble I ran into is that with various takeaway categories like pizzas, traditional, curries and everything else these joints sell needs to be divided up otherwise you have a list that can become confusing and lengthy. It would require a form that contains collapsed fields so when clicked it opens that category. Its not something I worked out but looked into jotform and they have a tutorial that allows you to add form collapse fields to achieve this so perhaps one of you HTML whizzes can create a similar code that can be dropped into a form to get same effect. Cheers :-)

what are 'curries'? :) You're best bet is to create a custom plugin, placing order information as an array or dictionary and saved to a preference string. That way you can have multiple order screens (e.g., one for each category of food) and a 'cart' screen/plugin that reads the preference string and sends off the order.

Agree its above my skill level to create a cart screen. I am surprised no one has created a product order plugin for the market. Think first one to create that will sell a ton

The issue with creating a cart plugin is what to do with the order. There's so many different payment processors out there that it's hard to make a generalized approach, unless I'm missing something. I'd be happy to make a custom plugin for someone though.

How about paypal? They accept credit cards of all kinds and most people are familiar with it. What would you charge. or you can email me with the info.

@chris1. I see that could be a major sticking point but could it not be done as a simple cart that only emails the order without the need for taking payment? That way the seller can simply send an invoice back to the buyer from their chosen payment processor. Or can a general one be built but without the code for the payment processor and a tutorial for how to drop the code directly into source code for their chosen processor. Just a couple of ideas :-)

Hi all, Thank you very much for all the input. Sometimes the solution is right in front of you under your nose. As I had no experience with HTML or PHP I bought a book and started to work it out. As Mark said it is not difficult, but nevertheless all new to me so it took me about 3-4 nights how to work out to make a form in HTML and let PHP send it away. Then i realised that my Website program (RapidWeaver - highly recommended) had a built-in screen that did just that and as it was customizable, it took me about 5 min. to make a form! Thanks again - you guys are super! Kristian Copenhagen

Great stuff. Do you have a sample of the form? How easy was it with rapid weaver and did you manage to add drop down categories etc. Would be cool to see what you came up with :-)

It was extremely easy.. It is already built into the forms that come with Rapidweaver. I have only played a bit with it and it has its limits, but yes, i could make drop down menus, checkboxes and all other stuff. Check this link to see my very early pre-beta stuff... http://www.apphaus.dk/contact-form-3/index.php I'll only keep it up for tonight.. it was all a test :) regards, Kristian
