Eclipse Galileo Download Link

Just started with BT and read the documents to use the Galileo version of Eclipse. I couldn't find the right one from the Galileo download site as not one of them mentions its for Android. Please, which one do I need? Also, is there anywhere on here or YouTube I can view step by step videos? That would be great to watch.

maamapps, This link may help. It is the download for Eclipse Galilieo. It looks like a 2009 product so I am not sure why Buzztouch is recommending this. http://www.eclipse.org/galileo/

Don't bother with older versions, use this link to use what Google recommends these days: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

This is very helpful, thank you. My Eclipse looks nothing like the one on the BTu training videos. Its got Java ADT instead of Eclipse but it starts up when I double click on the Eclipse application icon. I can install a emulator ok, that works. I can't see the Package Explorer and its layout does not change when I try and drag things round. My brain has asked to stop and consume my body weight in chocolate, perhaps that will work?

Ok, Chocolate consumed. I've found the Package Explorer but the fact is I cannot open a new application where I specify the source. I've got my first app waiting to be checked out for font and image sizes. How do people import their apps with a new Eclipse?

Click on File (on top of the window) and select Import. Select - Existing Projects in Workspace. If you have the archived file downloaded from bt select - Select Archive file option or in case if you have extracted the file downloaded from bt then select - Select root directory option. Thats it, your project file will be now visible in your package explorer. Now a days you need to compile all bt android projects to Google API level 11 (remember its Google API not the Android API). If you dont have google api, you need to download it from the Android SDK Manager. You can find it on the top of your eclipse dashboard. You might also download any other latest sdk's from there if you want. Once you have downloaded the necessary Google API's you need to right click (in case of mac, double finger tap) on the project file--> properties---> android---> and select the Google API you want to compile the app for... Now you can run your app on emulator or your android device... All the best.

Time for me to update my docs, I think! Things change so fast it's hard to keep up. I've been using the Eclipse ADT bundle, and it works beautifully. They're really streamlined the install process. Just Google it, and you'll find the latest level. Android Studio is out, but it's in beta, so use at your own risk. Mark

> Now a days you need to compile all bt android projects to Google API level 11 Not just yet. If you download the Android project today, you will still get an "old" version of Java files and plugins. I say "old" because they will soon be replaced with a new version of Android code, which will require at least API level 11. So, for today and a for a couple of days more, set Google API level to 8. When the new version of Android code becomes avaiable, set it to 11. The new version is now in testing phase. You may watch this link to hear the news the first: https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=D0B258BE16A259FA104E557

Just as a technical point, you're absolutely allowed to use API 11 now instead of API 8. The requirement of API 8 is the minimum required level, but it absolutely works with API 11 and newer. You do loose some potential supported devices as you move up in levels, but I think it's negligible in the big scheme of things. When David updates the code, API 11 will be the minimum required level as you mention. Mark
