My First Contract to Create An App

A friend of mine who owns a consulting company asked me about getting an app created for his business. After asking a couple of questions it sounds like I could put it together with one of the quiz plugins and a couple of menu screens. How should I go about quoting the app and what is a reasonable amount to charge for the app? I know there a many ways to do this but I would like to hear from the community on an approach that makes sense. Thanks. David

Money is relative to the region you work in, so I really shouldn't comment on 'how much' you should charge. It should be based on experience as well as time involved. I'd snoop around your locale and see what is the average going price, and act accordingly. Doing business with 'friends' is always a little touchy. In essence, treat everyone like a client, because friend or no, money is on the table. Don't let any details slide. If you're going to include a feature or two for free, invoice it anyway, and mark a discount for the same amount. They need to know your time and resources are as valuable as theirs, if not more so. Make sure you have a contract, and a statement of work detailing your obligations, as well as any obligations from them, such as content, payments, or what have you... David put together a really nice boiler plate for quoting app contracts, it's in the how to section of the website... https://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/sow-sample.pdf Congratulations, and good luck! If you need help, the forum is only a click away! Cheers! -- Smug

Hey, some people charge per screen, like $75 per screen. Cheers.

My wife owns a retail business and they looked into getting an app developed. The were told the minimum amount they would need to develop the app was $1500 and depending upon the features they wanted it could go up from there.

I'll be charging £50 per extra screen. £500 initial fee is the cheapest of any competitor around me. Then they charge £250 per month and also extra for more screens. Its a good business to get into even these days. I thought EVERYONE would be developing via these 3rd party sites, but looks like no.
