Do I need to add any code to my project? Or do I just need to download source code again?

31 permissions for a full integration (android) seems a bit excessive by any standards! Especially when a lot of them will trigger anti-virus warnings - install shortcut etc. As a developer I don't have a problem with this, I know they're ok as they're approved by BT, but it's a different matter trying to convince users it's ok while attempting to avoid bad feedback.

@raveyd - interesting. It would be nice to hear from Startapp's admin regarding why so many permissions are necessary and assurance that users' privacy isn't compromised.

If this had been posted by anyone other than a BUZZ Admin I would not have even clicked the link. A user is giving a lot for very little consideration. I could be wrong and just not hip enough to "Get It". Mike

Hi All, Ariel from StartApp here. True, we have a long list of permissions for full integration. But, a lot of those are device specific permissions of the same one (for example "READ_SETTINGS"), which we added in order to reach as many devices as possible. Those "duplicate", device specific permissions will not show in the Play store more than 1 time. So, if you go for full integration, you will end up with 11 permissions, with some of them are likely to already exist in your app (network, internet, read_phone_state). These device specific are in order to be able to reach as many devices as possible, so you can earn more. We completely understand that permissions are a sensitive area, so we completely separated our SDK's to offer you flexibility. Simply pick up our in-app SDK to avoid those "problematic" permissions. You won't reach the max potential of revenue, but still make great revenue with our in-app interstitial and 3D app wall. Hope this helps and answers your questions guys. We're happy to be a part of this community and hope we can help more developers enjoy great app revenue! Thanks, Ariel and the whole StartApp team.

Hi Ariel, thanks for posting, it's great to have contact with ad network admins. I sense though, that you answered @chris1's question without actually saying it. I see so many posts on the net about startapp and it's hard to seperate fact from fiction! It would be great if you could clarify if a full startapp integration with all permissions is, or isn't, a privacy risk to users?

@Raveyd, glad to be on board. The answer was meant for you, I missed Chris's question about privacy. This is such a big issue these days, and it's hard to not run into questions about this, certainly in the ecosystem. But it's a very easy question to answer really, there's no privacy risk of any kind, even with a full integration and that set of permissions. The one and only piece of information we track back and store (completely hashed, by the way) is the device ID, or IMEI. And that is to identify whether this device already has our service from a previous app. The rest are in no way a privacy issue. Some may be skeptical, which is understandable, we have both TRUSTe and Verisign seals (not just for our site, but for our SDK and code. Each was a several months approval process). In spite all of the above, still a couple of AV apps are flagging our SDK (our full SDK only) as "intrusive ads". This is a problem, yes, and we are doing all we can do remove this, but it's not something that causes too much issue, to be honest. Shoot over any further questions, i'll be happy to answer! Ariel.

I will try Startapp again from the recommendation above. I used them before, and my numbers never coincided with my installs from Google Play. Also around the end of the month, for some reason your servers are in maintenance mode, and when they come back up my numbers / revenue dropped.

When do you receive the $30 after registration or after having an App in store? I just sign up and no $30. LA

Hi LA, Thanks for signing up! We're usually adding all the bonuses from all channels at the end of each calendar month, along with the earnings for each account. If you wish, we'll add your bonus before that, you can email me your devID and i'll make sure it's added. My email - [email protected] Thanks.
