Working On My First App

My app works fine in Xcode but Eclipse has been a completely different story. I'm using Eclipse v4.3.0 on a Mac running OS 10.8.3. I've followed GoNorthWest's guides to the letter for setting up the Eclipse environment. I import my project into Eclipse and change the APIs to Google API 8 as instructed. Unfortunately doing so causes 21 errors. All of them are Java errors and all of them end with "cannot be resolved or is not a field." I have posted a screenshot of the errors here: http://i39.tinypic.com/2akbmnr.jpg Using the Menu Image Advanced plugin, I went back through and made sure that all of my header images were lower case letters, without spaces or special characters, and all in .png format. I have also made sure to copy all of my images into the res/drawable folder. Thanks in advance for any help. Buzztouch has made building an app a reality for a beginner like me!

Welcome to Buzztouch! I'm going to let @chris1 address the issues with his plugin, because I'm not sure what the problem might be. Sounds like you've followed all the correct debug steps so far. You could try a Project > Clean and see if that changes anything. You could also try changing the API to Google API 11, which is more recent. For the others with the issues, if you're not using those plugins, and don't anticipate using them, you can just delete the java files associated with them, do another Project > Clean, and try to build. Good luck and hang in there! I'm sure @chris1 will be along shortly to help you out. Go Packers! (My mom is from Milwaukee) Mark

Thank you so much GoNorthWest! I installed Google API 11 and configured the project as such and that solved everything! Now it's on to working out the bugs as I test on an actual device. Go Pack!

Greetings up there in Sheboygen county. Not bad work for a Packer fan ;) Doing the Family Night up there today? My buddy up there is probably in the lot already with the kids. Ours Starts at 3:00 here today. Compete mess to get to with Lollapalooza and everything else happening in the city. So annoyed we don't play until Week 8. City is excited for new coach but it means squat unless he brings that team up there and gets a W. Go Bears!

Hey, if you're working with the very latest Eclipse, how did you get your BT app to install? The PDF which comes with the app I downloaded asked me to follow steps which are not on the software. I cannot specify a source, it just starts a new app off from scratch. Any info for a noob would be great

I'm re installing 4.3 and import rather than specify source. AM I right is thinking API 11 is a tick box in an additional packages download area? Is it possible to update your documents on BT as there are too many variables. Perhaps the PDF which is included in builds should be updated and not lead people into thinking they HAVE to have Galileo.

Hi @maamapps, Here's a guide I wrote that takes you though Android development from start-to-finish. Shows how to import a project, get it running in the emulator, etc: https://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/buzztouch_For_Android-A_Users_Guide.pdf API 11 is a tick box in the SDK manager, which you can access from within Eclipse. Make sure you grab the Google API and not just the Android API. Let us know if you have further questions! Mark

Thanks for you help. I've got the app in the new version of Eclipse which has already had all the ADT and stuff installed. I'm now faced with a new problem ... RAM! Those simulators absorb it!

Yep, the emulator loves RAM! I typically close down other apps when I'm running it. FireFox is an especially big memory hog that might help to have shut down. Mark

maamapps GoNorthWest already mentioned it but his guide - https://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/buzztouch_For_Android-A_Users_Guide.pdf is what actually got Android working for me. The only update I'd make is to install Google API level 11 and use those to configure your project. As far as simulators, I gave up and just use my old Android phone for testing. Perhaps you don't have the luxury of using an actual device but it works way better than the sims.
