Can I install my test app onto my device without having to go through Provisional Procedures?

Hi Guys, I am wondering if it is possible for me to install a app that I am working on , and put it onto my device either my iphone or iPad or both for that matter without having to go through the whole provisional procedure ? Is that possible or is it a requirement? I would like to see my test app on a real device and no where near ready to send to Apple App Store. Thanks. Wizard

@WizardHunt I don't think that is possible. Each device has to be registered as a development device (you can have up to 100 different devices per App developer Account). You will build your app with the certificate that matches the development provisioning file you create that will be installed on your iPhone or iPad. You can take a look at the AdHoc Distribution guide in the developers center at developer.apple.com. There may be a guide in the How To's there is a link above. Good Luck Mike

Yeah, unfortunately there's no easy way around this. It's Apple's way of making sure you sign up as a developer and pay the $99/year in order to make apps.

I thought I got an email saying the provisioning profiles and certificates were back up?

i messed around with it last night without success. When i plugged in my device, the "use as development" button did not appear and i couldn't get a provisioning profile.

Well I tried. I got to the point of getting my certificates for ios development done, and my App ID is done, and my device is installed using it's UDID and I set up my provisioning Profile and it says active, but when i try to upload to my device it gives me an code signing error saying A Valid provisioning profile matching the application identifier could not be found but its there. So I am not sure what is going on. Maybe the fact that the Member center of the Development site is still down. So I guess I will give up for today. I am getting nowhere.

Is *that* device listed in the devices? Is it also a part of the provisioning profile for that particular bundleID? Remove the cert from your organizer, and refresh it. (provided everything at Apple is working... who knows at the moment...) Cheers! -- Smug

Yes my device is listed but i may have screwed up the procedure. I removed the certificate from organizer and then refreshed it and it still says valid. But does not work. whats strange is in Xcode, it says "A valid provisioning profile matching the application's identifier ' com.nameofmyapp.com could not be found." thats the error I am getting but in my provisioning profile it is listed as " C##########.com.mydomainname.nameofmyapp so did I mess up somewhere? Where it says C##### are the numbers it assigned to me, and my domain I used my domain website I plan to use later on and the name of my app of course is the name of my app. So where did I mess up? Was I suppose to do it in a certain order or something? One more thing, I only used development on the provisioning profile for now, was that a mistake? should i have used both development and distribution on the profile, I thought it could be added later. Maybe that is part of the problem but it says valid.

Ok, well, if your 'profile' is correct, are you 'assigning' the correct profile? If you have more than one profile (and after a few apps you will) then you may have selected an incorrect one...? Cheers! -- Smug

Question, looking at the iOS Team Provisioning Profile I made. I named it IOS Team Provisioning Profile. Does this name need to match the name of the app ID? or can the name of the provisioning profile not matter? After reading some more I see that does not matter. But maybe someone can tell me where i can check to see if my provisioning profile matches my app or App ID this is a bit confusing to me.

Ok, I got it to work. Here is what I did so others can learn from my stupidity. Taking Smug's advice to make sure the profile is correct for the device I was using I couldn't quite understand what he was talking about until i messed around with the plist file under the info tab. There I looked at the bundle identifier to see it was the same as the one in my provisional profile. It was not in my case. I copied and pasted it from the app id section where i set it up then picked the device from the drop down menu and what do you know, it worked. I was so happy finally. I knew the device was set up ok as in the organizer it had a green dot showing that it was connected fine. I was just over looking the bundle identifier and did not know where to check it until I investigated and played around with the settings in Xcode and found that option under the info tab and it now works. Hooray!!!

I'm not having any luck adding a test device. My request for a development certificate is still timing out.

Mine went right through with no problem. I guess I got lucky.
