working on the 'SmugAware' flight tracking plugin...

Nothing fancy. I've mentioned before about building a 'Raspberry Pi' computer to monitor aircraft traffic, and get a premium membership to 'Flight Aware'. Now that I've been doing this a while, I have to say, I'm not as impressed with the 'premium membership'. All the 'good' API data is still paid. So I've decided to create a 'Guide to the A.B. Wonpat International Airport'. Basically information about our local airport. Not sure if the app will be paid or advertisement-ridden. The 'star' of the show will most likely be my 'SmugAware' plugin... a screen that replaces the html based 'flight monitor' that is built into my 'Flight Aware' computer. (check it out at http://114.142.222.111:81 but know that we're a small place, and planes aren't flying 24/7). The tests are working out great! I finally figured out how to 'rotate' the aircraft image so that it matches the direction of the flight path. A long and somewhat boring video is available on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89TiCCz9m3Q but it shows the 'brunt' of what I'm trying to do. Additional enhancements will include different colors for the planes, at different altitudes, and selectable plane detail displays. Another interesting result was trying to find flight schedules. I finally found a page on our Airports website that collates all the flights coming and going, but there is no ready 'api' to get the data directly. Fortunately I was able to 'sift' the data out of their page, and place it into mine. If it were a private website, I'd be a little apprehensive about it. But since it's a gov't website, the information is free. The actual page is here: https://www.guamairport.com/travel-information/flights and using a nifty little script, I was able to 'cut out' the parts I didn't need, the result being here: http://apps.marianasgps.com/flightaware/arrivals.php http://apps.marianasgps.com/flightaware/departures.php Just showing off. And it's not all that much to show off, really. But it's what I'm up to. If you have any ideas you think would go well into the app, let me know! It's still way in it's infancy. Cheers! -- Smug
