Hello to new friends

Hi. I'm Jen. An ex-pat American living in the land of Aus. I have one app up and now want to ditch my programmer for the next one...minor issue that I am a relative novice at this! But Buzztouch is incredible. My burning question: I want the user to be able to upload their own document that can then be copy and pasted from when accessing URL links within my app. For example, then one of the URL links opens to an online form, the user can then copy what they need fro the pre-uploaded doc, and copy it into the form. None of the plugins seem quite right. Any suggestions? Your expertise and kindness is much appreciated.

hello and welcome. I am relatively new to all of this myself, so cant really offer much help with the technical side of your post. But the community here is incredibly supportive and I know that they will be able and willing to help you. If you could comment whether your question relates to android or iOS, that would really help when someone more experienced than me comes to read your post. :)

G'day Jen! Don't worry about experience; it doesn't seem to stop anyone around here! I'm trying to wrap my head around your concept, but for the moment my brain isn't functioning; if you could describe it in a slightly different way perhaps I can understand better. I think you'll find this a great community in which to build your app. Cheers! -- Smug

Hi! Thanks for the tips. For now it is just an iOS app. I thought I was being clear, but I was not blessed with a tech brain, so I'll try again... I'm putting together a productivity/reference app to help app developers in the submission process (review sites, etc). I'm pretty much done with all the heavy info parts, but there is one thing that is holding me up... I want the user to be able to compile their press release, or app summary details, in a word doc. This will be easier out of the app with a standard word processing program. I want them to be able to upload that word doc to the app. And for it to be editable, in that they can access it, highlight the section they want to use, and then copy&paste it into whatever online form they've chosen (through a link in the app). Does that make more sense? Any ideas on the easiest, most elegant way of accomplishing this? Thanks again for the support. Jen

Hmmm.... That's doable. But what might be a problem is I suspect you want this to be available for multiple users, with each user having their own unique document to pull from. And I'm not sure if anything in the plugins available can do that 'without modification' of some kind. For one user it's not an issue; you compile an app using the Word Doc plugin, and you're done. But for multiple users, you'll need to make some modifications that might be a little challenging at first, but can be surmounted. 1) You'll have to figure out a way for each user to retain their own unique URL to their document, or 2) find a way for them to be able to have the document in their 'user directory' of the phone or SD Card, and access that. If you're planning on both Android as well as iPhone app, then your solution may not need to be 'exactly' the same, but they're going to need to be somewhat similar, so that the solution works on both platforms without any 'change of method' for the user. I know @chris1 is/has created a 'user prefs' kind of plugin that hasn't been released yet. It 'might' work for the first option, but you'll need to speak with him on the details. The second option can probably be done as well, but I haven't worked with documents 'outside' my app yet (for multiple users) so I haven't worked with the file system. But this post at Stack Overflow should help: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1638834/how-to-check-if-a-file-exists-in-documents-folder Good Luck, and let us know if you bump against anything immovable. Cheers! -- Smug
