Preapps - Solo Set Dancing - my next app

Hi folks, I've decided to try out Preapps before publishing my next app: Solo Set Dancing, to get some feedback before launching it on iTunes. There are hundreds of thousands of Irish dancers around the world. This app is targeting dancers who already have some knowledge of traditional solo sets, so probably quite a niche market. Here is the pre apps link. http://www.preapps.com/new-iphone-apps/solo-set-dancing/330 I would be interested to hear what the BT community has to say too. What do you think re the concept, icon, layout, video quality…etc? What category should an app like this be put into, do you think? I’ve put it in “Reference” because I didn’t know where else to put it. All feedback, suggestions for improvement gratefully received! Derval

Maybe it's a Guam thing... But 'www.preapps.com' is not responding to my browser... I'll try again later. Cheers! -- Smug

It did load for me and I have read the comments. I have started my book publishing company some 23 years ago and one thing I can tell you for sure: if you want to sell a lot of apps (books, ebooks, whatever...) you address only the beginners. To be more precise, the beginning beginners, not intermediate level dancers, readers, students and so on. So yes, I have doubts that your app will be very popular, unless you find communities of Irish dancers online and convince them that they need your app. How many Irish dancers roam through the Apple store and DESPERATELY seek apps about dancing? In a nutshell: sell me the dream that I can dance and I'll buy your app. P.S. There is in image for a dance called Black Bird. In an app about dancing, I'd like to see what the dancers do, not the picture of black bird as such.

It worked for me this morning too. I love the concept. Not much of an irish dancer myself (I tend to do that old 1980's white dude dance) but I think it would really catch on, if exposed to the right folks. I'm bummed that you're not doing the Android version, but I completely understand; Android users don't buy stuff, lol! Oh well... This looks good; I hope you have great success with it. From the app side, I think it's neat! Cheers! -- Smug

Finally loaded! So impressed that you were able to interview such a great teacher and artist. I would disagree with Dusko. Sorry, Dusko. Micro Niches pay well and consistant for me. also..I believe the blackbird is the name of the dance step....but you do have a point of the port of entry at the app store you will find more sales with for beginner apps ... What I have discovered if you have a passionate group they will buy the app. Passionate people with money will buy anything to pass a test or a performance. You will not find these irish dance steps on youtube either. Irish dancers, which I have researched are passionate, competitive and yearn for tutorials and I think it is brilliant! Especially taught by a professional. I also agree it is how you position yourself ....perhaps making a family of apps with beginner steps to intermediate to experience in one store. Perhaps lots of screenshots too.... Android would be a treat too ;) Love the idea of sneak peak and great marketing strategy. Lots of hard work went into this and will pay off ;) Great job! ---Looking forward to more Love seeing your creativity come to life ;) Sheri

> I would disagree with Dusko. Sorry, Dusko. Micro Niches pay well and consistant for me. We actually do agree upon this one. I was just reacting to something I have read in the comments on the app page. Maybe I should have cited the comments in the first place. But the main problem remains -- how will the dancers find the app? Would this be the only app of its kind or are there already some apps specifically about Irish dancing so that the dancers already have the habit of searching through the app store!? I wouldn't neglect the Android at all. It is true that Android apps with price tags tend to not sell, but maybe this app could be offered to the local dancing clubs/schools, or maybe get advertisements from them? Or maybe the app with Scringo could be some kind of a social mobile platform for Irish dancers all over the world -- exchanging the steps, dances and courses, acting as a "go to" medium specifically for this niche? Just my 2 cents.

Thank you so much all, for taking the time to take a look at my app. I appreciate all your feedback and different points of view very much. I am hoping that with some specific marketing in Irish dancing magazines, websites etc., it will be possible to reach the target audience. Being a dancer myself, I know if I found this app I would buy it. I have looked on Google Play and iTunes and have found nothing like this available. So, I’ll go ahead as planned. If it is a hit and there is request for more beginners steps, I will try that route. My experience though is that these steps are not that easily taught to beginners through video clips/dvds and the like - you really need to be a in a class. Thanks again… will let you know how it goes! Hey, maybe I will even do Android if the iTunes version takes off!
