Hello from the UK

Hi everyone I'm new here, and new to the whole app making thing. No doubt in the very near future I'll be returning here often to ask for advice/problem solving. I don't really know what else to say in these so I'll leave it there! Joe

Welcome! It seems you've found BTU, so you're already off to a good start! Just keep on keeping on, and when you've got a question, fire away! Cheers! -- Smug

I have indeed! I've been doing my best to learn, but I now realise I have a long way to go before I can hope of getting the app I have in mind done. I know basic HTML, but would you say it would be beneficial to learn it properly? Or would another language work better, such as JavaScript? Or would I be better off trying to get to grips with the plugins already available, make a very basic app and hope that I have a better understanding after doing that and having watched all the BTU videos? Thanks Joe

Hi McJoeker, Welcome to Buzztouch! You'll find it great here. The community is great, but with you , it's even better, because I'm the organiser of the Buzztouch Oxford meets! We had a meet yesterday in the city centre and it would be fantastic to have you around. To put it short: a fun 2 hours of discussion, problem solving, and other app stuff! Come along! I can always meet you for a coffee in the city anyway, regardless of the meets. www.buzztouchoxford.com

You can't go wrong learning any language, computer or otherwise. But I think the proper BT approach is to see what's available, create something from that, and work your way into the understanding. The beautiful thing about Buzztouch is the code is yours! So, you can put together what you can with what's there, and later, modify some of the plugins to do something special that you like, and even a little later create an entirely new plugin from scratch to do something really nifty. Annandale can keep you headed in the right direction, and we'll always be hanging around the forums if you need. Cheers! -- Smug

Hi Annandale and Smug! Thank you both for your welcomes and replies. That actually helps simplify things a lot for me. I have an idea of what I want to create, but figuring out where to begin and get things working is a little tricky! It's something I really want to make over summer so it isn't going to stop me! Annandale, I had no idea there was such a big community around Oxford. I don't actually live in the centre, probably around 20 minutes drive from Oxford and unfortunately I can;t drive! If I do ever plan on going in to the centre I'll let you know/check on the meeting page and see if I can make it. Joe

To be honest, there isn't a big community around Oxford. My meets are with people from London, Birmingham (and one of them from Cardiff). Oxford is just a convenient middle point - but it's my home! Where abouts around Oxford are you? I'm not strictly speaking 'in Oxford' but I go in everyday. I'm up by Woodstock, so if you're near, I dn't mind meeting in Woodstock.
