Is a separate deveopler profile required?

I have made an app for a customer, it will be the first one i have made that will cost something. is it best practice to set them up with their own developer profile so that can get paid directly from the app sales? Thanks

Good question. I'm inclined to say yes, set them up on their own account. Few reasons. 1. You may or may not have a relationship with them for years to come, if it is on your account you are tied to them. 2. Payments can get tricky, on their own account they get them direct and you need not perform accounting duties for them. 3. If they have their own account you can add this as a line item on the billing statement. Dev account setup, keyword analysis and so on. 4. 12 months from now guess what? Chances are they will be back at you looking for their dev account to be renewed, billable and will want some app updates as well. 5. Branding, it's good for the client in terms of branding. Under their own name. 6. If it is under you name you may feel obliged to do updates and improvements free of charge so that you continue to elevate your own brand and not have a stagnant app under your name. Many more reasons that I will add when they come back to me. Good luck with it!

I pretty much agree with MacApple on all points. As long as you can bill 'em... Cheers! -- Smug

Happy days. There are always exceptions of course. For instance, say you were producing an app for a conference, you might want to brand something like that under your name. Association of Armadillo Lovers App by mishgolf type of thing.

Great insights @MacApple! If it was a free-to-download app, I would say it's 6 on one, half a dozen on the other. But since it will be a paid app, definitely push them to publish it under their own name.
