Can't add plugins and question about server web page styling

So, I just installed the self hosted server last night. But must have missed something. Have gone over it a couple times and can't see what I missed. When I click on add plugins I get a 403 error. Also the site looks very bare, no formatting or styling whatsoever...is this something I have to do or did I miss something else? (I have some Wordpress setup experience but am not a web programmer). Any suggestions or pointers are welcome!

I dunno... it sounds like you may be missing a piece or two. 1) Try doing a re-upload of all the (server) files. 2) Make sure your config.php is completed (after an install, there is still things to edit in there) 3)if that doesn't help, I'd look at your PHP settings to see if they're holding you back. Hi Smug Thanks for the suggestions...I did double check the files but to be safe I followed your advice and reloaded. I had updated config (everything except google map api...was not sure what to put there). Anyway reloaded double checked config...looks ok to me but same problems. What would I be looking for in PHP settings that might 'hold me back'? (is there a checklist or prerequisites I can verify against?)

I wish I had a cut and dry answer, but it seems to vary from host to host. If you have FTP access, and your FTP Client has the capability to change permissions, set your entire BT Directory (and all subdirectories) to "755". That may help... it changes the permissions to what would be 'default', which is what you need. Let us know how that goes; we'll figure it all out eventually. Cheers! -- Smug

Hi Smug Thanks again for keeping tabs on this. I think I found my problem. Feel a little silly now! A couple of months ago someone was trying to hack my site so I loaded up on a some security plugins. One of the security features was to prevent long url's! Looks like I need to remove that block. I am going to wipe everything and start again with that feature off. Cheers!

Don't sweat it. It'll be one of those knowledge nuggets that will save someone else one day. Cheers! -- Smug
