Free Open Source Weather

Due to limitations in the number of free API calls for the current Weather plugin, both @mleonard and I are looking at other options. How about we put our heads together and see if we can come up with something we can all use from this free open source API service: http://openweathermap.org I've never created a plugin before, so this might be a good learning experience. Any developers willing to help? Heck, let's make this plugin FREE. Thanks!

Yes, like @BuzzingSteve said...would love to hear if anyone has found another solution or could help figure something else out. I have an app that could really benefit from this.

Yeah that limits suck. Github has a view examples that you could probably learn from Here is one that I found. Not open source but you could learn a thing or two https://github.com/bkturley/weatherApp

Just a thought. Use the html plugin with that api. There should be plenty of free US government resources for weather. One of my favorite Mixergy interviews. http://mixergy.com/matthew-wensing-stormpulse-interview/

I found out the easiest is just to use an HTML plugin and pull data from the NOAA... it's not 'free' per se; my tax dollars hard at work :) But it has the added advantage of being instantly android compatible too. http://mobile.weather.gov/index.php?lat=13.444304&lon=144.793731 Since weather usually has to be online to be recent anyway... Sadly, they don't honor requests for locations outside the US. I really like the code from here: https://github.com/AhmedEid/Weatherli which works from data out of 'worldweatheronline.com'. I'm still working on converting arc to non-arc. If you want to beat me to it, I'm all good. Cheers! -- Smug

@SmugWimp. Nice find with the Weatherli...have you looked at using http://openweathermap.org ? Their only request, from what I could see, was that you don't request more than once every 10 mins from the same device. Still searching :-) Cheers
