1st App Approved!

Wow...my first app just got approved and is in the app store! I want to thank the Buzztouch community here...it is AWESOME and I couldn't have done it without them! With all my questions, nagging, and learning all about how things work, it has been such a great experience (still learning, more questions to follow) :-) App Name: BC Tech App Store Link: http://appstore.com/bctech Support Site: http://www.DaffyApps.com Please take a look...it's a free app with one in-app purchase for the quizzes. It is also using Scringo for Facebook/Twitter integration. Some stats are below: - app was in "Waiting for Review" state for 8 days - then this morning at 7:30 am it went into reviewing state - 4 hours later, it was available for sale on the app store - no changes were requested by Apple, and they did not ask for a privacy policy (I took out the radar for Scringo, for now). Next steps: - looking for some good reviews...if anyone wants some promo codes for the in-app quizzes purchase, let me know...I think the promo codes I downloaded should allow you to get into the quizzes. - if you download the app, please use the Feedback on the main screen to provide some feedback for the app. - going to add a privacy policy on support site - going to add the Scringo Radar in once the app is in use

Looks very nice Steve, Congrats! Where did you get your Quiz source questions? (Don't want or need a copy; just curious where...) Can't wait to see what you've got in store for your next release! Cheers! -- Smug

Thanks guys :-) Smug: various sources. Best way to get questions is to look at the source material and just create your own questions, and if you've been working in that field for a while then you'll know if they make sense, eg I've been in IT for over 28 years :-) Cheers

Looks good! I have discovered one slightly glitchy behaviour though- and my guess is that it perhaps has something to do with Scringo.... Randomly, when I go to push and article up or down, (or a menu list up or down,) it appears stuck. It will allow the Scringo swipe though. It is as if Scringo has grabbed the controls and will only allow the side swipe. The only way out is to hit the back button. It doesn't happen all the time, but happens often enough to make it annoying

@LevensGardener. Thanks. Yes, I noticed that behaviour. I'll need to look into fixing that in the first update. I'm hoping the new version of the Scringo SDK that just came out will fix this. Cheers

Very nice app, Steve! I love visiting Vancouver...so much awesome stuff to do there, and the gateway to the Sea-to-Sky Highway, which I consider to be one of the most awesome drives on earth! Great job! Mark

been there once, for a stop-over on the way to Prince George. PG snowed. a lot. And my cold weather gear (snowboard, warm clothes etc) stayed in Vancouver. But hats of to Canada Air, they delivered it to the door the next day! I describe PG as being like that little town in '28 Days of Night'. Went exploring out in the wilderness. Found some bizarre wildlife. Chased some wild animals in an attempt to catch one with my bare hands, they later turned out to provide far greater human mortality rate statistics than bears!

@trouty. LOL. Haven't been up North to Prince George yet, but I know a blue eyed blond living there, who likes her guinea pigs :-) But, I prefer warmer weather :-) Cheers

wish i could remember what those animals were... it was a few hours later after i'd leapt out of the car and attempted to catch one, that i saw i signpost which showed the animal, and how many human lives/hospitalisations it had been acountable for in that area... it went something along the lines of: Bear = 3 Wolf = 2 Moose = 2 This odd thing (not quite a moose, not quite a deer) = 37 !!!! Apparently, they get really really protective around their young. It was a young 'un that i'd tried catching lolol! Livin' on the edge...

Looks good, Steve! I'll download & review. Is there a limit on user requests with the weather plugin? I think I saw that when I was looking into it.

Nice work! I had an issue with screens not scrolling on an app over the weekend. I found that if I specified each screen to allow for vertical scrolling, rather than not specifying anything at all, it fixed the problem. Might be an easy fix...

@trouty. LOL...if I remember, I'll try contacting the blond with the guinea pigs to see if she knows the type of animal...that's weird! @Pancho. Thanks! Appreciate it. Cheers @mleonard. Thanks again. If there is a limit it to the weather app, I guess I'll have to disable it. That would be a pity. Cheers @Jefe. Thanks! I'll need to try that. I'll make a change via the Buzztouch control panel later today, and make a note for the next version. Appreciate the tip! Cheers

Ok, the glitch behavior might also be from Scringo...I heard back from them...see below: ------- Hi Steve, Thanks for the detailed description of the problem - it was very helpful when coming to solve it. We solved this "glitchy behaviour" you noticed in your app. It was a result of not handling too well Scringo's slide operation in UIWebViews. You can check our site for the brand new 2.2.2 version that contains the solution for this problem. Please let us know if you find it to solve the problem you saw or not. Guy

@BuzzingSteve Yeah, I could be wrong, but you might want to look into it. From their site, this is the free plan. To use it more than this you have to pay. I was looking to use this in an app, bought the plugin and eventually disabled it, because I didn't want to pay for a larger plan. Plan: Developer Monthly Pricing : $0 Calls Per Day: 500 Calls Per Minute: 10

@mleonard. So, I guess the plugin is not that useful in a live app :-) OK, another thing to add to 1st update. Did you end up using anything else instead for weather? Cheers

I haven't found anything else yet, no. Yeah, from what it looks like, unless you only have a few users (hopefully not) then it may not be very useful unless you want to pay Wunderground. They do give you "rain drops" to help you when you go over the limit. Basically, if you have a rain drop to use, they will allow the service to continue to function. And if you give them a certain amount of referrals, you can get more rain drops.

Great looking app! I'm still looking to get my first one approved so congratulations! If you don't mind, what did you use for the menu icons?

@mleonard. How about we put our heads together and see if we can come up with something we can use from this free open source API service: http://openweathermap.org @DavidEdgertonJr. I'm not at home, but basically if you google you will find sites that offer free to use commercially icons; I also bought some icon packs (some were mentioned in the forums). @LA. Thanks...now on to 1st bug fix update :-)
