Self-Scoring Surveys/Quizzes

I have no idea to code and am sorting through whether or not what I want to do is feasible before I have too much time/energy invested. Is it possible to use one of the quiz plug-ins to set up a series (around 20 or so) different self-scoring tests/quizzes, each with anywhere from 10 to 50 questions? The quizzes and scores would be independent of one another, and are mostly yes/no questions. I would need it to self-score the yes' and no's into several categories and provide a summary of the score(s). This will be used to evaluate students based on a variety of criteria and give the user an idea of where the student falls in a given category. So, it isn't a "game", but it could potentially be incredibly useful. So, is there an available plug-in that would do this? I've tried to look, but it seems like the quizzes are made up of correct vs. incorrect answers. Thanks in advance, Noob

Welcome to Buzztouch! Buzztouch currently has 2 quiz plugins: 1. The "Interactive Quiz" plugin --This plugin is free --This is a simple plugin to use --You must have 4 answers 2. The "NAD Advanced Quiz" plugin --This plugin costs money, but is worth it --This plugin has many customizable options --You can have from 2 (true/false or yes/no) to 5 answer boxes Thanks, Jake

Thanks Jake, I saw the Advanced Quiz plugin, but am not sure if it is capable of what I am looking for. Could it divide different questions on the "quiz" into categories when scoring? For example, I am testing a child on certain classroom behaviors that might fall into different categories... could the Advanced Quiz plugin easily be customized to score questions in different categories? So, say Social Behaviors, Following Directions, Completing Work, etc. each with several questions that would apply in each category. Is it an issue that there are no "right" or "wrong" answers? This is simply information gathering, and then making an assessment/suggestion about potential solutions for problem behaviors, etc.

Hmm... Those quizzes all score based on 'right' and 'wrong' answers... What you're looking for is more like a poll of some nature, which at the moment isn't available. Although, either quiz would work great as a 'starting' point for a poll type plugin... just needs some massaging of the scoring area... I'd talk to Nad and see what his opinion is; he spent a lot of time on his quiz, so I'm sure he'd have a good idea what it would take for a conversion. Cheers! -- Smug

Took me a minute to figure out what you are looking for. I don't think the NAD Advanced quiz will work for what you are trying to do. That is an interesting problem though, a self assessment test.

If the webform from chris1 ever gets approved it might work.

Awesome idea! I would think the quiz plugins could be modified to do this. As for my upcoming webform plugin, that's an interesting twist on it! You could certainly use it that way if you crafted an appropriate php file for it to handle the answers and provide a response. I'm thinking a modification to the quiz plugin would be less work though. I could be wrong.

Nad, it is essentially a self-assessment that I'm interested in setting up. There are some recent changes in my field that make an app like this inevitable to come about very soon, but it's also likely to be very expensive for people. I thought if I could do it myself there are a lot of others that would benefit and be willing to pay for such an app. The only app out there at the moment is around $40 and is essentially irrelevant given the changes in the field in the past few months. If I were a coder it would probably be simple enough and definitely profitable. Not being a coder though, I obviously have far fewer options. Another option is to simply set up a series of self-scoring PDFs, which I am capable of doing... But from what I've read that wouldn't meet the functionality and interactive requirements for iOS and iTunes. Then tests themselves just became public domain and are going to be used by a lot of people. By the time I actually learned to code (which I don't have time for), it will already be done. I am not a super wealthy investor or anything, just one of those people who will be using these tests on a very regular basis. So, am I correct in my assumption that there is not currently a way to do this? I know nothing about coding (past very basic web editing that I have taught myself). How much effort would be involved in writing the plug-in myself? I am guessing way more time and energy than I have. I was more than willing to spend the money on the Advanced quiz plug-in, if it would serve.

Another option is to pay someone to make the modifications for you.

How many categories would the answers be broken up into? You say most of the questions are yes/no, so there would mostly be 2 answers per question. But then the answers would need to be filtered into different categories.

Hello NikkiS (finally someone within 100 miles of me, lol) I did something similar a long time ago with one of my first apps, where I just made every correct answer worth 1 point, and limited the answers to yes/no. Then I made the results screen just a static screen (HTML, PDF, etc) that said: If you scored < 2 : yada, yada If you scored 3 - 5 : yada, yada, and so on.... (I got the idea from all those Cosmo magazines that my sister used to leave in the bathroom... another story....). That was before I knew any better, but it still seemed to fit the purpose. -Chris

Is there any way you could share which assessment exam your trying to make. I am not trying to steal your idea. I am just trying to get a better idea of how much modification the quiz plugin would require. If you don't want to post it here my contact info is in my profile.

I just spent a long time looking into how to make PDFs do this instead... And that is also waaay more complicated than I thought. I can do it in excel, but that was as far as I got. Nad, I'll send you a copy of one of the assessments I'm looking at using.

Chris1 I could and might be willing to pay someone to make the modifications for me... I am considering that possibility as well. I turns out there are several assessments that require 1-5 type ratings and need to be scored. Most of the assessments need a single score in a given level and then to have a rating attached to it. Some do them need to be categorized into groups of types of behaviors, etc. Nad, I sent an example of two different assessments via email. Though they are older and not from this recent change in scenery.
