Free Vs Paid Apps!

Hi BT Community not sure if anyone has covered this subject before, but I am stuck with a dilemma whether to charge for my apps or offer them free on the hope I can make money from ad revenue. I guess what I would like to know is what are the views of others, what are the pros and cons for free vs paid apps. There is no denying that my Free apps do rather well and my paid apps are struggling. Do I persevere and hope my paid apps pick up? Do I change my paid apps to free? How will those who paid, feel about the app becoming free? What do you guys think?

Another strategy is to offer it for free but only show a portion and set the bulk or juice of the app to inapp purchase. The highest grossing apps are usually free and use that strategy, i believe. Im going to toy with that approach (if i can get it working). You could also remove the price and advertise that it is for a limited time to boost some downloads/reviews.

I doubt many who paid would be upset with the app becoming free, unless you start showing ads to them and ask them to pay to turn the ads off. Showing ads at all may get you some bad reviews - people are fickle on the App Store.

Free app, .99c to turn off the ads. Check out absentia's 1D app.

I think it depends on what you are providing to the user. A well polished and app with many features or content, the value could be more depending on the market. The app's category is important and the user base that they are targeting. Teen focused apps, no doubt FREE.. :)
