Android hardware for testing on - suggestions?

I have an android app out there, but don't have any android hardware to test on, so I wondered what folks would recommend hardware wise. This app was tested by borrowing a tablet, but it isn't preferable. For developing new apps having a test unit would be helpful. I'm an iPhone guy, so this purchase would be solely for testing my BT apps on, so I don't want to spend too much money. (A friend is selling an ASUS A500 for $150) Not sure if tablet, phone or ? is the best idea. A S3 would be great, but not really wanting to lay out $350 for a test unit:) (Not planning on having a sim card/phone use on it) Any thoughts, inputs, etc Cheers Graham FC

I'm an iPhone chap as well. I use an old S2 for testing on, fairly cheap if you buy a bad ESN one and don't need to drop in a SIM. Lots of S2 phones in use so a decent cheap option.

I would recommend you buy a phone instead of tablet for testing your apps. As MacApple already suggested S2 would be best for this purpose coz it is upgradable to Jelly Beans. Even Galaxy S would do the work but it is not upgradable to ICS or JB. BT apps on android act a bit differently on different size android devices so if possible instead of buying a tab try buying phones which are of different screen sizes. I test my apps on Galaxy Fit (2.3.6), Galazy S (2.3.6), Galaxy Tab2 (4.1.2), Xperia x10 (4.0). But the most i use for testing are Fit and S coz they help me in finding what changes i need to make in layout files to make look the screens same on all devices. And yes dont buy any unbranded android just because they are cheap...

I bought a Galaxy Tab 2 tablet that I test on, and it's fine for the most part... But the real test comes when I put my app on my wife's Samsung Galaxy Nexus, because the appearance is *never* what I expect. When people talk about words running into icons and things like that, it shows up on my wife's phone. Never my tablet. My suggestion would be parallel to Sandeep; get a phone. Get as many as you can.
