Pingjam, a new way to make money with Android apps

Hi Buzztouch members I've been a programmer for as long as I remember. Last year I joined the Pingjam team, and I'd like to tell you a bit about it. The short version of what we do is: 1. You add Pingjam SDK to your Android app 2. You get paid every month for every active user - like a rent. Just sign up at http://www.pingjam.com to download our SDK and learn more. * How it works: We make a Caller ID service for phone numbers: when a number you don't know calls you, we show the name of the business which the number belongs to - and even warn you if it is a telemarketer. We do this without replacing the native dialer. We also work on outgoing calls so when you return missed calls or call some number you see in an ad, you get the name of the business so you know you dialled correctly. Pingjam distributes this software as an SDK you can integrate into your app. When users open your app for the first time, you can offer them to activate Pingjam, using our opt-in screen. Pingjam can be easily disabled by the user, from within the Caller ID screen. * Why do we pay you to do this? If we have a relevant ad, we display it in addition to the caller ID. For example, if we see your user calls a Abe's Pizza, we can show him a coupon for 40% discount at Joe's Pizza. If your user calls his Bank service line, we can show him a banner to download the Bank's self-service apps instead of waiting on the phone. All our ads are relevant and non-obtrusive, so people accept them same as they accept Adwords or other relevant ads. We pay you because Joe's Pizza and the Bank pay us for the banners. We don't do anything with private numbers. I will be active on this forum to answer questions - please feel free to contact me or ask questions in this thread. Pingjam is a company built by Android developers for Android developers. I hope to see your great apps as part of our family :) Ran.

Ran, What kind of feedback are app developers getting on their apps after adding your sdk? Is it easy for an end-user to turn off the service / uninstall it from their phone? How much does this pay? Thanks

Hi Chris I'll answer your questions in reverse order 1. We pay $1-$5 per 1000 active users, every month, depending on the country they come from. This means if 1000 users download and install in the first month, you get $5 every month until they uninstall. We do not pay per download - we pay a rent for all the users who have the app installed. Since the service is outside the app (in the dialer) the user doesn't have to open the app to be considered active, just keep it installed. 2. When the app is uninstalled Pingjam is uninstalled with it, we don't leave any traces on the device. Also, the caller id screen has a link to your app settings, where Pingjam can be turned off with a checkbox. We want the users to use are service because they are happy with it - not because they are unable to uninstall. Of course we only work in the first place if the user chooses to opt-in in the app. 3. We closely monitor the ratings and install rates for every app that joins us. Pingjam hasn't affected these for the hundreds of apps that use us and are installed on millions of devices. We do require new permissions from the app, so some apps had comments about that - but when the developer explained why the new permissions are there, the comments were fixed or removed. The people who are angry about permissions usually relax when the developer explains what's going on. Regards, Ran.
