What would happen if I changed a menu tab?

I have a live ios app... I want to change one of the menu tabs which is currently a "share this app" menu tab to a custom URL tab. If I change it in my BZ control panel will that screw the code up and make it so the app doesn't operate?

You should be ok, providing the "customURL" plugin was compiled with your app... If you released it using BT v2.1.8, and have 'Live/Design' modes, you can test it before sending it out... Cheers! -- Smug

A couple of the other tabs in the app are "custom url" tabs, so yes the plugin is installed. Im just scared as I don't want to screw up the current live version, and there have been a ton of downloads... I did create the app using the latest build but I have never hear of "live / design" mode... where would one find that?

In version 2.1.8 of BT and BT Self Hosted, there is 'Live/Design' mode capability. When you are in 'Design' mode (the default) all app changes are immediate, once they are confirmed in the control panel. "Just before" you publish an app, you should delete the 'design' mode config, and replace it with a 'Live' mode config (or, in your config file, change mode from 'Design' to 'Live'). When a published app is 'in the wild', *no* changes in the control panel will affect the apps that are in 'Live' mode. This is so you can test different configurations without the users freaking out. Any device with a 'Design' mode configuration will show the changes, but not 'Live' mode devices. When you're satisfied with your changes, you 'Publish' those changes via the BT Control Panel. This will make all changes available to those devices in 'Live' mode as well. This is all in your BT control panel. If you don't have it, you should update to the latest version (2.1.8). If you're BT hosted, it's already there. Hope this helps! Cheers! -- Smug (and if you weren't aware of Live/Design, then it's probable that all your device apps are in 'Design' mode. Those changes will be immediate to everyone.)

Sorry smug for the dumb question but with that said if my app is in design mode and changes are immediate, from your proffessional opinion if I add a tab say the "custom URL" one and change it in my control panel as long as the plugin is installed you think I will be alright then?

It's not a dumb question; this issue confuses many, many others as well. You should be ok. Create the new screen, then make the change in the tab assignment. Don't delete the old screen; just leave it there until you're sure everything is cool. Test it. Cheers! -- Smug
