Self Hosted Requirement

I am looking into different web-site hosting services and I'm curious as what is required for Self Hosted? I have looked at the Self Hosting page and cannot determine what is all needed. I am looking at pair.com for the hosting. Will that work?

Be sure it is a LAMP hosting account you are buying, not Windows. LAMP stands for LINUX - APACHE - MySQL - PHP. There are a bunch of people on here with successful installs on many different hosting providers. Some are easier to install on than others. I use HostGator as do many others here, moved to it from GoDaddy and have have had zero issues. Don't know anything about pair.com. Good luck Tim

I agree - hostgator is the way to go when you're starting out. Their $4/month plan will work great and offers you a lot of flexibility. You can add SSL later on if you need it, and it supports push notification (if you ask them to open the ports).
