Buzztouch Push Notifications Blocked ports

Hi guys and gals, yet again more procrastination led me to finally try out Buzztouches push notifications. Thanks to a post asking whether we could launch a specific screen from a push notification. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED lol I wanted to use self hosted as I haven't used the Buzztouch control panel since the first week I joined. To my dismay I got that error blocked port crap. Boo. So I emailed my host (Host Papa) and with the advice of MrDavid in a previous thread asked them to unblock the four ports. They refused, said we don't unblock ports not many host do, leaves us open for blah de blah boring. I said I want my push notifications to works surely others have access to this he said yes they do, but I had asked the wrong question. He says that them ports are never really blocked it's the firewall and it's choice of networks blocks and who gets to poke through, apparently some ip addresses can sail through fine without blocking such as face books, twitters, CMS stuff. He said find the IP address of apples push notifications and he would add it to the freindly list for my domain. It is 17.0.0.0/8 a nice full block (apparently apple change their APN IP alot so may aswell just pick on apples whole IP block. And within minutes the push notifications where sent. So maybe not ask to unblock the ports just ask your service provider to allow outcoming and incoming stuff from apples IP 17.0.0.0/8 hopefully that may stop some from having to change hosts

Interesting, good stuff. Will try with GoDaddy over weekend, wouldn't mind leaving the elephant slayers behind though.

I'll be digging around in the control panel source code to make a proper box or boxes. The power of buzz touch, if i hear people say you can't do that in buzztouch it winds me up. no YOU can't do it with buzztouch, others will always find a way

Hi Kittsy, if you are rummaging around in the CP, it would be interesting to find out if there is a way of creating a 'white label' form that could be used to send a push from a (different) website, so customers can send their own pushes?. I just want to know if it is do-able. Cheers, Alan

@AlanMac The probable "white label" approach would be to set up an account for the client through another push service (urban airship, etc) and let them have control of that portion. BT doesn't allow you to schedule posts but other services do which will help out the client as well. Ryan

Ryan, that's not the buzz touch way, I'm personally not very experienced with website development, but all that screen appears to do is make a an url with a load of object keys like this {"apps":{"alert":"please work", "badge":0, "sound":"default"}} it then uses the certificate to push a very simple message to our devices. I'm sure that code can be manipulated, and I'm also sure that if we ask david very nicely he may share how it works in more detail. I have seen an APN server on code canyon that does a very similar thing, someone skilled with the control panel php stuff like MrDavid could probably make a login default where certain users can only send push notifications.

Thanks Ryan. I think the BT push UI a bit clunky, so I thought a way of simplifying for the end user would be nice and also it would be good to have the facility with core BT rather than a 3rd party. I do have push working with Parse.com, but it puts the user in control of things that they could break, which perhaps could be 'hideable' with a custom form.

I spoke to MrDavid about this a while back, when push was first touted. Instead of having it on the clients server. You would give them a user name and password to their app and the only screen in the control panel they would se would be the push notification one. He has done some great stuff so I'm sure this would be easily in his realm of expertise.

Yeah go chris1!! I think Buzztouch NEEDS a great client side push notification functionality that they wont be able to break the app. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with :-) sxywebgirl

@chris1...if you have any ideas or know how on how to get this done, I am also very interested. I am even willing to pay for custom PHP work to just allow a client login with only a Push notification UI.

Hi - I am looking to create apps for different clients and I'm wondering did anyone manage to do this? It would be so much better to create a white label screen for them where they can just send push notifications, so they wouldn't have to go through buzztouch... Thanks
