Thank You (x a bazillion)

So 6 months ago I built an iPhone app based on the IB biology syllabus for my students. I meant to post a giant thank-you back then but thought I'd wait until I had finished the android version (been having some small issues). Couldn't wait any longer though! It is a very niche app but it seems to have spread. I've had over 12,000 downloads since I made it (if only it wasn't free!) and the other day snuck into the daily top 100 downloaded education apps in USA (according to AppAnnie). I even managed to reach #1 in Jordan!. I know education apps are probably a pretty small subset but i'm still super chuffed! I am a high school teacher and have no clue about app building, so I really wanted to thank everyone who helped me with what were often incredibly dopey questions. There are too many to name, but I am incredibly grateful for the support. This is such an amazing community! If anyone wants to take a peek at my app (it's awesome if your kid does IB biology), it's called BioNinja IB. (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bioninja-ib/id567358299?mt=8) And while I am typing, one more question: Do Android phones play mp4 files (the phone I am testing on is old and I'm not sure if the fact the files won't play is a 'my phone' thing or a 'general phone' thing)? On the phone I am testing the app on, the fourth option of the quizzes also get cut off, so I think it could just be the fact that my phone is really old and really crappy! :P

Congrats @bioninja! Yes Android plays mp4. On the quiz, you can make the layout of the tabs bigger and font smaller and see if that works so it's kind of a trial and error. LA

Nice Work! Congrats. Excellent work on the responsive website too. Well done. Do you think if it was not free you would have had the same amount of downloads? IMO education apps are on the uptick. lots of schools are just getting funding now for iPads. I don't think schools are buying them so kids can Facebook during class. Teachers need good apps to use in class. Working on a few for my wife who is also an educator. I'm thinking free with premium content - but what kind of issues does in-app purchases bring up in a classroom? I hope you wind up up #1 in every market :)

I've been thinking about how to monetize education apps also. My mom's a teacher and, like ATRAIN53 said, schools are using iPads more everyday. The best way to go about this, since each kid can't install on a schools iPad, is to sign up as an Apple Enterprise Developer. This would allow you to sell the application in bulk to schools. Just another idea on the whiteboard, Ryan
