Hey gang, I finally got a MacBook! I just went thru the buzztouch U again, and looking for suggestions on learning the Mac and Xcode. Any good free suggestions? Thank you in advance. LA

You're going to love your macbook! Get used to using the COMMAND key for copying/pasting, Control Key is now useless. :) Menus/Options/Settings are now the TOP bar of the active program on your desktop. Integrated directly into mac. You're more likely going to be able to access advanced options from the top bar (where the apple at the top left of your screen is) then an actual button in a program. Really cool. No screenshot button, I think you need to hit Command + Shift + 2 (but don't quote me on that!) Download Chrome, super fast on macs. Cheers! David Cheers! David

Command-Shift-3 for screenshots. Also, if you don't have Clarify, you can always 'print' to PDF and annotate from within the "Preview" app. It's what I used to do before Niraj turned me on to Clarify. Cheers! -- Smug

I believe you should have QuickTime which does a nice job at Screen Recordings with audio. Works great for me. Congrats big boy! Ian

@Calypso Kid, you stole my quote...was just gonna type it! :-) LOL @LA, I've been using both Windows & Mac since the dark ages (mid 90's), and can say that for personal use, I would never buy hardware that can run only Windows when you can run both operating systems on the same hardware...maybe get yourself a couple of monitors, so you can - test iOS code on one monitor - test using Eclipse on the other (or to check those stocks you're making $Millions on) Cheers

Atta boy! You'll like the hardware. Software is better than Microsoft too. I just got a new iPad. Realized I like Android much better. Nice overall though. Xcode is not too bad. Certificates are a bit confusing. Apple gets a lot of say on how you build your apps, unfortunate. My recommendation is not to build dual purpose source code in BT. Make one for Android and another for iOS. Best of luck. -Shane

Hi LA! congratulation. I am sure that will like it. It takes a little while to get to it after windows, but then you realize that it is more stable, more intuitive, and more fun. Most of all, if it works, it works. You will probably need some software to get where you were before on windows - all the mentioned softwares are free of charge community projects, all of them work very nice so no need to spend thousand bucks for pricy Photoshop and other needed tools: instead of Photoshop you can use www.gimp.org - 95% of Photoshop features instead of Corel you can use www.inkscape.org - create vector graphics, logos instead of MS Office you can use www.openoffice.org - self explanatory instead of MS Outlook you can use www.seamonkey.org - e-mail client with Mozilla integrated in one environment, I use it I also suggest to use Evernote: that is a great cross-platform software for you to keep notes, you can access it from your android phone, your computer... and have all your notes always with you. Including pdf, pictures... Things I was wery unhappy with in Mac: - their Mail software... and there are a lot of people who are unhappy with this particular software. - Finder is just working but clumsy. Suggesting to download PathFinder, you will appreciate it when you will need to manually remove AVD in Eclipse. Finder will not let you go deep enough in the directory structure. PathFinder will. Have fun! Frogman

Congrats! My biggest advice especially if you've never owned a mac is that you'll get used to it. And then you'll try a machine with windows on it again and you'll tear your ears off. -tM

Great advise everyone! One of my biggest problems is trying to hold down the mouse pad on the MacBook to drag folders into Xcode. There an easier way? Also, when I upload a zip plugin to my self-hosted, it's not zipped anymore so how do I zip it? LA

To zip up a folder right click and hit Compress "...". (isn't it nice not having to download 7zip?) The way I like to have my settings are three fingers drag = regular mouse click down drag. This way I can move around my folders without clicking. I also like the two finger tap for the right click and the single tap for the left click. All of this can be adjusted in the System Preferences App. -tM

For a BT Project, you download the project folder and drag and drop the BT_Plugins folder into the left project bar that looks kinda like the Finder window. If you need more specificity I can give it, just let me know! -tM

Yes besides the plugins, what else? I'm trying to make a word association so I can remember them easy. I think there are four, correct? BT_Plugins, BT_Video, BT_Images, and BT_Sound? LA

Nope, that's it. All you have to drag in for Xcode is the BT_Plugins folder. Now you just have to hit the Run Button in the top left! -tM

I think that had to do with v1.5 and he did that because of the default images for the tab bar for example. But nope, (at least for me) I just drag in the Plugins folder and I'm off! -tM

@LA...look at the instructions.pdf file, which is in the project source code you downloaded and unzipped. It tells you which folders you need to copy into Xcode :-) According to that, it's more than just the plugins folder. Cheers

LA, so what do say after your first day with Mac? My wife was looking for Windows controls for the first week. Since then I hear no complaints and miraculously she does not want to back to the Windows computer. I wonder why. BTW: there are a lot of good deals for Mac software on: www.macupdate.com - here you find tons of useful stuff for free www.macappdeals.com - also good deals, do not buy everything :) https://deals.cultofmac.com/ - look for freebies and bundles www.udemy.com - this week they have a sale, courses normally run for 99$ are on sale for 10$ and you probably know, that you can develop your Android apps also on a Mac, from my experience Eclipse is more stable on a Mac than on a PC. Have fun! Frogman
