can I move apps to self hosted?

Will I be able to move the apps that I created in buzztouch.com to my self-hosted server when all set up?

Sadly, no. They'll have to be recreated from scratch. Cheers! -- Smug

You can do push with the BT control panel... unless you want 'your client' to be the one doing the day to day... In which case, yes, self hosted would be a better solution. If this is the route you're going to end up going, I would suggest taking a look at some of the mods available at Mr. David's site; Buzztouchmods.com; there are a couple of edits that can be done to limit the access users have to the control panel. If you can 'read Json' then the config.txt file is basically a roadmap of how your app is built. It's not going to make it any more fun, but at least all the details will be in one area, rather than going screen to screen... I'm going to give more consideration to some kind of import. It looks like more and more folks could find that sort of thing useful. But I've been delaying it, because there are a LOT of balls that will need to be in the air while we juggle... Cheers! -- Smug

Yes, some way to import an app from buzztouch.com to a self hosted would be great! I should have asked this question when I first started, but being a noobie to app design it's all so much to figure out.

Well, why don't you ask David Book to write that bridge for you? There are plenty of others that would find it useful.

There is another option if it is just for push; you can use a 3rd party solution for push notification. A lot of people on the forum have had success with parse.com.

@Sheri suggested using scringo....I have it showing up on my iPhone only cant seem to get the test user to work. But realistically, I dont want all this Facebook stuff and having to create a Facebook App. All I want is push notification functionality that my client can do herself.

I use parse.com for pushes, I have had it working for apple and android projects; there are several posts in the forum. I personally find it works very well. To integrate it into an apple app you would need to remove or comment out some of he in-built push code from your appdelegate, which sounds harder than it is in practiced, as it is commented. You can allegedly create a form that runs on your own site and link to parse.com if you prefer, but it isn't easy. The easy option is for you to create an account for your customer with a user name and password for them to use on the parse.com site and let them use that to create the pushes. @AlanMac, The parse.com looks promising! I created an account and going to do the integration, I'll let you know how it works for me. I really hope this does the job :) sxywebgirl

@AlanMac, I went through the Quick Start Guide to get Parse running, got to the end and tried to do the test and it just keeps saying "no data yet" I dont get any errors when I build and run my project so I'm totally stumped. Ideas??

I found the parse.com video helpful (and I don't usually like learning that way!). The other things I look at are :- Parse SDK - https://www.parse.com/downloads/ios/parse-library/latest Parse Quickstart Tutorial - https://www.parse.com/apps/quickstart Detailed Tutorial https://www.parse.com/tutorials/ios-push-notifications Give it a try and if you are still stuck, I'll rustle up some notes on how I do it and chop out some of the code I copy from app to app. Cheers, Alan

@ AlanMac, You had mentioned that you were successful in getting parse.com running on your app. Maybe you can help me? I just dont know how to fix the problem of duplicate method error I'm getting. The original BT code has this.... -(void)application:(UIApplication*)application didRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithDeviceToken:(NSData*)deviceToken{ And to get the push notifications running I have to add some additional code. Only the one of the new methods (below) is making me get a duplicate error. - (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didRegisterForRemoteNotificationsWithDeviceToken:(NSData *)newDeviceToken{ I found a great video tutorial that was so straight forward and easy to follow except when he builds it's successful and I'm not because I get this error. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzmqCij-V1I Any suggestions?

I think I know what is happening. One of the methods named by Parse has the same name as one built into the code for the BT hosted push. It is in the appdelegate.m file. There are 2 ways round this that I have tried. Option one is to rename the offending method and everything that calls it before you add in the parse code. Option 2 is to comment out all that BT push code, then add in the parse push code. I have an app where I went for option one and I can push to it from BT or parse.

I tried commenting out all the BT push code and I get semantic errors, thread issues and my app crashes

If I were to rename the BT push method what would you sugget naming it? Also, I'm new to using xcode, how best would I find everything that calls it? Thanks!
