App works on simulator but doesn't on the actual iPhone

Hi, I'm having an issue testing my first app on my I phone. It works great on the simulator but once I try to put it on my phone I just get a black screen with an empty blue navigation bar on top. any ideas? thanks!!!! PS : no errors on Xcode either.

Hi Antonio, Welcome to buzztouch! Another Tucson user...awesome! I live in Oro Valley if you ever want to hook up and discuss app development. You can contact me at MrkFleming at gmail dot com. Have you tried to refresh the app once it's installed? The refresh button is in the upper-left hand side. Mark

Sweet! We'll have to hook up at Starbucks sometime and talk apps! @jvalley's suggestion is the next thing I would try. I'm assuming it's already there because it works in the Simulator.

OK, now to the debug console. Any error messages in there? Can you paste the output here from the time you start up the app?

Do you have your development certificate installed on your Mac? That's required to get an app running on an actual device. Some odd stuff in your config file also...seems like you have some screens without nicknames, though that really shouldn't affect anything. Can you send me your BT_Config.txt file? You can send it to the address above.

Looking at it now. With regards to your development profile installed on your Mac...is that done?

OK, so it might be the splash screen. I'd delete that screen (you can always add it later), and then delete the reference to that screen in your layout section of your control panel. Then do a Product...Clean, and try to build on the phone again.

No, you should be able to keep them. Do you have Push configured at all? Try deleting the app on the device and then installing again. Make sure you do a Product...Clean first. Mark

It's the ability to send a message to all your apps. But it's not required that you have it configured. So that's not the issue.

Do a search for "splash" in the config file and remove all such references. Delete app on iPhone Clean-build-run with iOS Device as the target. -- Niraj

Often a reinstall from Buzztouch cleans over the blips. I think it might be because you haven't reinstalled it lately, which means your iPhone is showing what was last there on the install. Remember, before you publish, you MUST reinstall the data from Busztouch

HI guys thx for replying ! @Niraj I didn't find anything related to "splash" in the config file folder but I found some in the "BT_application.m" should I delete them? @annandale you mean re downloading the source code? I did that twice and still no results unless I'm doing something wrong while reinstalling the data any other ideas? thank you guys for your help!!!

I also have 3 icons in my simulator, maybe that has something todo with it? The icons are 3 different versions of the app but only one of them is the one that I want to keep. How can I get rid of the other 2?

Hi Antonio, I'd start by deleting all the old versions of your app on your phone. To do that, just touch and hold the icon until they start to shake. Then click the X on each icon. That will delete the app and all the data. Next, in Xcode, do a Project...Clean. That will break any old code links, and compile the app "from scratch." Then try to build again. This really seems to have something to do with the device itself. If it's working on the simulator, than that at least means all the files and things are in place. So, it must be something else (I think). Let us know how it goes! Mark

I tried it with my wifes's phone also and nothing. Also when I'm running the app from xcode on my phone as soon as the app shuts down the screen at the top on xcode says "finished running"It seems like its not seeing the rest of the app. I'm going to try to run it on my I Pad next.

If you would like, zip up your entire source package (in case you've added files) and send it to me. I can try running it on my device and see what happens. Mark

Hi Antonio, This is indeed perplexing! I ran this on my phone twice, using both iOS 4.3 and 5.0 targets, and got the same results as you. It appears to be crashing on something related to Push Notification (the ability to send messages to registered devices), but I didn't think it was a requirements to set up push for every app, even if you weren't going to use it. I've sent an email to David at buzztouch (the guy who wrote the code) to see if he can help. In the meantime, you should feel free to continue development work using the simulator. Eventually we'll get past this issue, and all the work you've done on the simulator won't be in vain. Mark

HI Mark, I decided to rebuild the project as a new app and now it works! I don't know what I did different but at least I can keep creating projects now that I know that they can actually work, thank you so much for your help! We should definitely get together for coffee one day to talk apps! Antonio

Sweet! Glad you got it up and running. I'd still love to figure out what went wrong, so I'll continue to pursue that a bit. But I'm glad you were able to get past this obstacle and see the power of buzztouch! We'll absolutely get together soon. Once baseball and softball wind down, I'll have tons of time on my hands. Mark

Hi guys! Different question now, I want to include a self contained video on a new app that i'm going to start building soon. As far as I know to be able to do that I would have to self host the app.Can you guys explain me the process of self hosting? I'm thinking about using the amazon cloud for it, what do you guys recommend? thx!!!
