Best and cheapest push notification service

As I haven't implemented any push service in my forthcoming app, which one would you suggest?

I don't do push (yet) so I'm not 100% positive. but the way I understand it is... Push is 'configured' via the BT server control panel for the app you wish to push. The "sending" of those messages, are via the BT control panel (either BT or your self hosted) The "delivery" of those messages are via the Google or Apple Push servers. At the moment, this is all free of charge. I have no idea whether they plan to charge (although I feel eventually something will have to give...) There are other 3rd party solutions, such as "parse" that can provide push services along with other data handling services they provide. This is at a tiered price, starting with 'free'. I'd check out the Push documentation in the how to section, and see what it's going to take. I do know you'll need to generate some certificates and identity stuff, but again, that's within your environment, and other than time it's free. But again, because I haven't done it yet, I'm going on what I've read in the forums and on the net; I could be mistaken in any or all areas. Cheers! -- Smug

Is there a reason why you're only looking to third party solutions? Give BT push a try first in my opinion.

I am dying to start push yet I can't because I am hosted on GoDaddy.com and they aren't friendly with the Push Process. I am having a go with Parse.com as a third party. Is that your case @Goergio?

@farcat yes I'm self hosted with hostgator...I don't know yet if they are problematic with push... @chris of course I'll give it a try but I like the option that appoxee has, where you can schedule your push but unfortunately it isn't totally free now and has some bearable payment options (at least for me), so I just needed some opinions about other push services and what users who use them like most.

I have found that Parse works well with Buzztouch. It is free for up to 1,000,000 pushes received by your app in a month and you can schedule pushes. It has other more complex features that I haven't tried.

I have been using Parse.com. The free account only allows for immediate push. You have to upgrade to get scheduling.

From the forum posts, HostGator has been known to work with BT push as long as you ask them to open the necessary ports. -- Niraj
