DaffyApps

Hi All. Just registered www.DaffyApps.com (really liked the name, play on Jolly/Merry and an online Thesaurus helped). What are you using in terms of software other than the self hosted control panel software? I mean, I'd like the main site to be simple, maybe something like the sites showcased at www.appsites.com, and have the self-hosted software as a subdomain. I'd like to install something simple and easy to maintain and also have it "responsive" so it looks good on mobile devices. I'd like your thoughts and ideas. Cheers

@RedDog. LOL. Nice. Your website is simple and easy to navigate. I've been using Wordpress for many many moons. Which theme did you use? I know there are a couple free ones and more on www.themeforest.com. Cheers

I also use wordpress with the appifywp theme - http://appifywp.com this is my site - http://www.pixobit.com - it's in pretty bad shape right now..I honestly have never taken the time to make it look nice, and I accidentally deleted my screenshots today :P I am not sticking with 'pixobit' anyway..I thought it sounded cool back then but not so much anymore. Plus there's already a pretty successful iOS developer called 'pixbits'. I've settled on a new name so I will probably be starting an LLC next month and getting a new website up as well

@Absentia. Nice. I mean AppifyWP, not you losing your images! :-) One question: with their $49 current pricing, does that give you access to showcase only one app, or is that to use their theme on one Website? Couldn't see anything on their site talking about that. What I'd like to do is have subdomains for different apps in the future, eg. app1.daffyapps.com for App1, app2.daffyapps.com for App2, etc and have each site showcase a different app, possibly using this software. I guess I could send them an email, see how fast they respond :-) Cheers

it says $49 for single use - I can't say exactly what the limitations are on that since I've never tried to use it again for anything else. I've never tried to contact them, but it's worth a shot

Well, I found the FAQ, and it looks like it is only for one WP installation :-)

WordPress or Joomla is the choice of the ages. Both provide extensive plugin functionality, and recently Joomla v3.x is mobile ready (although there are plugins for earlier versions) and I think Wordpress already does that, or has a plugin that mitigates it. Neither are difficult to install or maintain, and allow a lot of configuration flexibility. Cheers! -- Smug

@SmugWimp. Yep, as mentioned above, already used WordPress for years. Was looking at all options, including themes. Sometimes even WordPress can be overkill for a simple site unless you have the right theme or the time to customize :-) Cheers

OK, here's a free option for WordPress: - install this theme: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/thematic - then install this skin for Thematic: http://www.apptamin.com/app-websites/

Well, looks like Thematic works great. Check out the test site I setup below. The subscription actually works if you want to be notified when the app goes live :-) But all the app info is just test information right now: http://www.daffyapps.com
