Aurasma... like finding a needle in a haystack.

Downloading the Kernel seems like a mission impossible. They've made it a Paid feature in their 2.0 version. But finding out how to get a paid account or how much it is, is impossible. So signed up to use the Aurasma Studio... easy enough. I applied to become a Partner... I was accepted. All I got was a new account for Aurasma Studio, no extra features nothing. Also their 'free Upgrade for a limited time only' offer has expired but it doesn't say that on the website. So I sent an email saying that I wanted access to the Kernel feature, I got an email back to say "Aurasma 2.0 and its feature set (including skinned apps and the kernel) are now part of our paid model." No links.. nothing. How on earth do you get the paid account!? I just bought Kittseys Plugin this morning, now a little disappointed with Aurasma.

I finally got a call back from the aurasma sales and they said the paid version for all 20 of my educational apps would be tens of thousands of dollars. I love the idea of augmented reality but I cant afford prices like that.

Hi Nick, Since they are now part of Autonomy (and, by reasoning, HP) their developer support has shot downhill (and they now want around 5000 GBP per kernel). They're on a hiding to nothing with this and if, as they first suggested, they stuck to a pay per use policy (pennies per impression etc, like adwords) they'd have a lot more developer love). If you haven't got any previously downloaded kernels then it looks like you might be stuck. I'm hoping that a couple of open source, HTML5 versions of AR are developed to fruition sometime soon.

And their forum is the worst. Just a bunch of guys posting links to torrent downloads of TV shows. I haven't contacted http://blippar.com but that might be something. Of course the Aurasma Plugin wouldn't be useful then. Ryan

@RFConcierge, Yeah I had a look at Blippar but they don't offer any kind of Kernel download, just a white label product. BUT they do suggest that something like Aurasma will come in the future. @JimmySaver, So if it's per Kernel can you have any amount of Auras with that package, might still be worth pursuing just to find out. All in all Aurasma have really shot themselves in the foot and quite obviously never attended Business Studies 101 class. Shame. Maybe there should be an update to the plugin's info, the instructions are a little out of date now.

"off the record" (Haha!) It's my understanding that Autonomy bought Aurasma. Then HP bought Autonomy. This is a public forum and I'm none too keen on opening myself to charges of libel. However, look at this post and work out why HP is in so much of a hurry to make some money from Autonomy's stable of products (http://techcrunch.com/2012/12/27/hp-confirms-federal-investigation-of-autonomys-alleged-fraud-in-its-annual-report/). I wouldn't be surprised if their pricing model changes in the near (ish) future. In all fairness, I suspect that the original staff and creators behind Aurasma are as infuriated as much as the developer community with these changes. They had the perfect opportunity to corner the AR market by courting smaller developers instead of the agencies. They will almost certainly loose out now to any open source / pay-per-use competitor.
