Updating via Control Panel

So I've gone through all the course material and viewed a few newcomer videos. Which did help a lot with the basics of eclipse. Been coding from scratch using the videos as guidance in the quest to be more then a drag-and-drop developer. Now something that I've been looking for and just can't find anywhere which I believe is crucial to new members. Is the role buzztouch plays. In other words. If I create the framework (Screens and menus) with BT and publish it. I go into eclipse and modify the code to my liking and change the blank activity to do what I require from it ect. My question is, what happens lets say you add an extra screen to the app via BT. What happens? Will it overwrite all the work you did on the blankactivities or change your menu which you manually changed because the BT style wasn't completely the way you wanted? This is probably the biggest thing that's been bothering me,that and google maps 2.0 (HINT HINT David) :) Getting my Mac mini this week and will join buzztouch with next paycheck :) As always, in the debt to our BT community, Abrie

Hi Abrie, The changes you make in the control panel do not overwrite any existing or modified code. All they do is change the JSON data in the BT_Config.txt file, which is what gets fed into the code itself. The controls the look and content of the screens. You can make modifications to the code, and as long as it still responds to the config file, you'll be OK. Lots of people modify the code for various reasons, and don't have any problems. Hope that helps! Mark

Thanks Mark, Just wanted to clear that up. I mean in all the training videos, they work from eclipse or xcode and build from scratch or they use the CP. They never use both together. Might be a good thing to introduce in a video!!! As I said, it almost made me go ahead with just eclipse and xcode. but I really like the push notifications and other feature-full things only BT gives. Thanks again Mark for your comment. Abrie
